Richard Young was ranked the #4 RB?

Edit: just looked all that up. I don’t see him ranked at all. Not sure where that came from.

“#4 in the 2023 class” is what it says.

Meaning he was #4 coming out of high school.

A lot of posters on here hate it when someone disagrees with them, even if it is hypothetical. Some want to die on that hill or come back with a I told you so. It really is childish.

The real statement is young 1st year starters play well...at times

There are just too many games in a row that you need to play exceptional mistake free football.

We also dont apply common sense to this...were any of us as good at our jobs the first year we started doing them as year 3-4?

That's a huge downgrade. Makes me think we told him to leave.

Of course we did. That dude didnt sniff the field in a season where we needed anybody who could run the ball. He vanished. I like the term drift wood; it fits Young.

This isn’t an absolute rule but I’ve found you can sometimes predict the trajectory of a player in the portal by whether they mention their HS recruiting ranking or their current year transfer ranking.

If they’re talking high school for a player who played a few years in college, you can sort of assume they’re downwardly mobile so to speak.

Very odd with Young he showed a lot of promise early. Makes wonder about his attitude and drive, he never got any better or rose to the occasion

The way he played in the FSU game was so bad that they buried him under the doghouse even as our tailback position floundered. Dude ain’t got it.

IDK man the best player doesnt play all the time. Russaw was playing over Pierre. We saw a lot of that when Saban was the coach.

Not much evidence that Young was the best player though.

So, not winning a National Championship in a 12 Team Playoff would be a failure of a season?

I just want them to improve (especially Offensively). If they went 10-2, won the SECCG, and then proceeded to lose after winning 2 playoff games, you wouldn’t consider that a successful season?

I don’t think there are many fans out there (of any team) that have expectations of “National Title or Bust”.

I just want to see the offense look functional…..I don’t consider that “setting myself of for failure”.

National title or bust is a ridiculous expectation when you have to play 3 or 4 great teams to win one now. We're going to have more random arse champions now than before because there are simply more ways to get got because matchups are going to mean even more now that teams don't have effectively unlimited depth. Alabama caught the worst top 4 seed they could have caught in the quarterfinals. Alabama may have made the semis if they played any of the other three teams. Meaningless hypothetical but clearly Indiana was not the team we wanted to be catching.

Edit: to my point, Miami caught a team that was flailing down the stretch in the first round, a top 4 seed that wasn’t as good as people thought due to a weaker conference schedule draw, and a team without significant pieces of their coaching staff. And they really just scraped all those wins out but they won.

Edit 2: Look at the NFL where the Pats or Texans have a red carpet rolled out to make a Super Bowl if they just win this weekend because the Broncos starting QB got injured on the 2nd to last offensive play of the game in overtime. If you play more football, the chance one of your most important players gets knocked out for the next game or the rest of the playoffs. The expanded playoffs was about randomization not finding the actual best team and handing them a trophy.

I do agree with that. Some guys are just gamers though. He didnt get much of a chance to prove it imo.

SEC title and/or national championship, or bust.

Glad Young found a place to land.

Yeah I was starting to feel bad for him. He kept reposting he was in the portal.

The things he put on tape in the FSU game was damning. He wasn't following blocks on handoffs, incredibly soft at contact, and straight up watched guys blow by him in pass protection.

He was in a real game and wasn't gaming.

A RB that couldn't get minutes on a team with the crew of RB's Bama had in 25 is suspect. If these two freshmen aren't capable from the get-go of giving quality minutes, then we're going to struggle again in 26.

I don’t see any reason to run down a guy who tried his best on a Sunday morning so I wont go in detail, but we all saw the results on the field. Unless he was recovering from an injury like Justice Haynes or something it wasn’t going to work.

Hopefully with a new opportunity at a lower level he can shine… but it wasn’t going to happen here.

Speaking of injuries I’ll always wonder a bit now what the coaches were seeing in fall camp before the injuries to have them raving about Jam Miller the way they were. I suspect we might have a very different perspective on him if he’d gotten to play even half a season healthy, but now we’ll never know.

Crazy to think that Young was a highly regarded recruit in high school. I remember when we got him committed, all of the big name programs were recruiting him. Georgia, Oklahoma, Clemson, Oregon, Notre Dame, Ohio State. Clearly, something happened that made him drop off after all that.
