I know we all gave him shite for his champions of life thing but what an outstanding human he is. He 100% cares about every player he has.

I think Butch got shite on a lot because he was the coach at Tennessee but he’s a genuinely good dude and I wish him much success from here on out. Roll Tide Coach Jones.

Butch puts his foot in his mouth a lot and he was working for an absolute shite show of a program. That turned him into the butt of a lot of jokes. Tennessee has institutional level problems though. Anyone who takes that job is set up to fail.

Yeah, he gets a lot of crap for his time at UT, but anyone was going to fail there. People tend to forget that he was very successful at Central Michigan and Cincinnati before he was at UT. The guy won 4 conference titles in a short time with those teams.

Sure the SEC is tougher and all that, but it’s not like the guy doesn’t have any coaching abilities, or Saban would have never brought him on board.

Butch is a good guy, a good coach and I wish him the best.

The level of vitriol that Tennessee fans to this day have toward Butch is unwarranted and unfair.

frick 'em all.

JMO but I believe went in the wrong direction on the recruiting trail at UT. You need Character and not Characters. His pursuit of talent found him selecting too many blinking lights.

Surprised it took so long for him to get a job. Maybe he was burned out and the past 2 years were a good fit. Hope he succeeds

I think you are right. He even admitted as much at one point that he kept thinking he could be the one to fix those kids and in turn it would pay off for him. But unfortunately if you take in to many risks, they can feed off each other.

His $35k annual salary at Alabama was not enough to mitigate the terms of his $200k per month buyout from Tennessee.

That monthly payment from Tennessee ends on February 28th, 2021.

Not only that, check out this video of him hugging Vol players and staff after our win in Knoxville last year.

And this video of Tua and Damien Harris getting him with the Gatorade.

Players on both teams loved Butch.

He definitely grew on me during his time at alabama. I’m happy for him. His press conference was so genuine. How do you not root for him!?

Haven't read everyone's response, but I'd like to give a HUGE shout out to Coach Saban... That man has literally been a God sent blessing to people... I can think of several instances in which Saban has given people second chances when some of the lynch mobs in the media and maniacal fans would rather see that person crucified. From players to coaches etc.

Once I remember him saying ,something to the effect of, their being a huge difference between disciplining and punishment... Disciplining someone helps them make better choices so that they have a better chance of being successful. Punishing someone doesn't really teach them how to make better choices.. He genuinely seems to want to help people to succeed... Whether it's coaches, his players etc.. He gives people second chances even though he comes under a lot of scrutiny for it at times. Sad because isn't that the right thing to do??

Believe it or not, I've been told that I have an uncanny and almost eerie ability to read people and people who excel at their craft, I usually try to find out why and how they do it. I would have been an EXCELLENT profiler, I've been told... But anyway, Coach Saban is savant-like tendencies... He's VERY camera shy, he does NOT feel comfortable expressing emotions when the cameras are on... He's very stoic and NOT a great actor(his aflac commercials are awful). He has a routine and does his BEST to stick to it... BUT AND THIS IS A BIG BUT: That's actually a good thing... But behind the scenes, from what little I've seen and from what I've heard he seems like one of the truly nicest guys you'll ever meet.. His ability to connect to people and understand them is uncanny...

But back to him being camera shy. Have you ever noticed that in some of his interviews he will sometimes look away from the camera. Almost as if he has to regroup for a second (savants are known to have a very difficult time with keeping eye contact.. Now this doesn't happen very often but I've noticed it once or twice..
At other times, he has LASER LIKE focus, which for some, can be VERY intimidating. Kinda like when my dad would ask me a rhetorical question, tilt his head back, and intensely GLARE at me, basically saying: CHOSE YOUR WORDS WISELY. Because the wrong ones are gonna get you absolutely destroyed.. Saban does the EXACT same thing and the tension between him and that reporter is eerily familiar. That shyness goes away and when I see that look, I seriously would think ok crap.. That's my dad's look. Shits about to get real.. Also If you've noticed at times when he gets angry, he tends to have nervous-like spastic reactions when he's handing a reporter his arse(lol)....

Interesting tidbit but, Miss Terri once told a very interesting story about her husband during an interview.. I wish I could find the exact quote, but she once stated that her and Nick were talking about his terrible relationship with the Media and people's overall perception of him... Long story short, she told him, flatly, how people view him.. Those who have only seen him on tv coaching or during interviews see him as being basically a mean jerk. His response was, something to the effect of, "really?? cause I'm not like that at all".. He was GENUINELY shocked from what I gathered.. Did you guys get that? He didn't have a clue..

Now I could go on and on but in all of that to say, that the people that are in his inner circle, parents that have spent time with him, recruits that get to know him and his players, all say that he can be very business like but that he's a great person. When he lets his guard down, he is NOT what you see in front of the camera.. He's funny as hell, he jokes(Google: Josh Jacobs and deez nuts), laughs and he seems to really enjoy connecting with people...

I'm gonna sum this up with one final thought, most people can be fooled IF the actor is good enough... Hollywood pays people millions of dollars to do this..
I work in sales and even when I'm having an absolute crap day, I can put it on and the person that I'm speaking to would never know it and it's not an ability that I'm proud of.. I can fool a lot of people but I have a hard time being able to do so with older people.. An older wiser grandma can see through someone's bullshite and I know this from experience.. It's been few and far between but I've read on a couple of occasions that older grannies LOVE Saban.. I've not heard one bad thing said about him from an older wiser person..

To drive my point home and to reiterate my original point, Saban is not a good actor. He's a GENUINELY good person who cares, sees the good qualities in people and tries to help them in life. He's donated millions in charities, at football camps he teaches little life lesson to young men, like having a good handshake and doing right even when it's hard.. I think it'll be a long time before we see another football coach quite like him(if ever).. He will probably go down in history as the GOAT if all time. EVEN if he never wins another championship... Even if you're not a fan of him personally, you gotta give him props and if you're a fan of sports in general, you gotta admire greatness... There will never be another Jordan, Ali, Tiger Woods etc.. I'd FIRMLY out him in that category in CFB..

Butch Jones's statement and the emotion behind that statement sum it up PERFECTLY..
