The names mentioned on BOL for the defensive staff were: Kane Wommack, Karl Scott, and D.J. Durkin.

Honestly, this would be as good as a staff you could ask for. Scott has been here before and is an elite recruiter, say what you want about Durkin but the guy can coach and recruit, and Wommack is a rising star.

More on Wommack

He was a Broyles Award finalists in 2020 at Indiana.

His unit led the Big Ten Conference with both 17 interceptions and a 64 percent red zone defensive rate — ranking first in the country in the latter category and second in the former — while also pacing the league with 20 takeaways and 3.12 sacks per contest. The Hoosiers also finished 10th nationally in turnover margin (1.00) and were among the top 25 in scoring (20.2 points per game) and passing efficiency (120.96 rating) as well in 2020.

Karl Scott is the one that excites me the most out of those names. Downs would probably love that

There's just something about an undersized baw that looks like a maniac rushing the passer that makes my heart skip a beat.

Ahh another smokescreen

Hell we should just wait at this point, none of the current options seem great or viable

Wommack is a rising star.
scoring defense has improved year to year for every team hes been either DC or HC as far as i can tell.

Eastern Illinois DC (its hard to get stats on FCS teams so im just copying his accomplishments in here, pretty impressive improvements)

In 2014, Wommack was named the defensive coordinator at Eastern Illinois. In his first year at Eastern Illinois, Wommack's defense ranked second in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in scoring and fourth in takeaways. In addition, four defensive players earned all-OVC honors that fall.[1]

In his second season, Wommack helped the Panthers to a first-round appearance in the 2015 NCAA Division I FCS playoffs, and a top-25 national ranking in the final polls. Under his direction, Eastern Illinois defensive lineman Dino Fanti was named the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference co-Defensive Player of the year, as well as the College Football Performance Awards FCS Defensive Tackle of the Year and a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. Eastern Illinois defensive back Jourdan Wickliffe earned first-team all-OVC honors in consecutive seasons under Wommack's direction.[1]

During the 2015 campaign the Panther defense ranked second nationally in interceptions (19), third in takeaways (31), fourth in pass efficiency defense (103.0), eighth in red zone defense (67.3%) and 10th in tackles for loss (98). Eastern Illinois led the OVC in pass efficiency defense (91.8) and red zone defense (53.3%) that year, while ranking second in the league in scoring defense (19.8 ppg), pass defense (194.8 ypg), third-down defense (29.7%), first-down defense (17.2%) and sacks (19).[1]

South Alabama DC
First year as DC as SA they jumped from #115 37.3 ppg scoring defense to #56 27 PPG. His second year they dropped a little in ranking to #63 but improved their PPG to 26.5

Indiana DC
Jumped from #81 29.9 PPG they year before he took over as DC. First year as DC they improved to #45 24.4 PPG, then again his second season as DC they jumped up to #19 20.3 PPG

South Alabama HC
they dropped a bit in ranking from #53 the previous year to #66 but they actually improved in PPG from 27.3 PPG to 26.4, just defenses overall were worse in 2020 vs 2021. Second year at SA the defense improved up to #26 at 21.3, then they dropped to #27 this year but improved PPG slightly to #21.0 PPG.

Hes clearly a good defensive coach, has been in the south much of his career. I think it would be a good fit. Hes improving these places drastically, and neither Indiana or South Alabama are places its easy to get talent at. Hes improving these teams by like 10 PPG. Don't know if he's a good recruiter, but he's definitely a better DC than Robinson

I've seen a lot of stuff about Courtney Morgan hitting the recruiting. He has talked to a lot of current players and recruits. Dude is working that's for sure.

I have a feeling this guy is gonna be one of the favs on staff, Really excited to have him honestly.
