Offensive line play...question

Sack at start Q4
Its right at 7 min mark if vid doesn't go to it
For those that know O line or offensive design. Is this by design (if so why?) Or a player mistake
Out of the huddle Outz lines up out side of Proctor...so seemingly in good position to give help, but then Outz moves over LG and touches no one...while proctor gives up a sack to the vacated outside
Was Outz supposed to stay outside? Was Proctor to protect outside get his man (40) inside where he has help...or was Outz there for an delayed blitz that didn't come?

Good find…This must have been what Saban was alluding to this week when
he said “ It doesn’t help when a lineman allows himself to get beat
on the outside, knowing he has inside help.” So, I’m thinking it was
by design. Our o-line just isn’t communicating very well as a unit.
On Outz, my guess is they put him there on purpose to help both
the LT on the inside and catch any incoming blitz.

It’s almost like maybe Ouzts could turn around in that situation and be a safety valve for milroe.

What’s painful from those screenshots, is that we essentially have
7 blockers on a 3 man rush…and still give up a sack.

Was it in the spring game or a regular game last year, that Ouzts was so effective as a safety valve. I remember he was tough to bring down. He even ran an effective wheel route if I remember right.

That's the play that coach Saban referenced saying that the LT knew he had inside help (Ouzts), so there's no reason he should have ever been beaten outside.

This is also a classic example of Milroe lack of pocket awareness. He never steps up into the pocket. Stays back and takes the sack. Or runs sideways and takes a 7 yard loss instead of simply throwing the ball away.

He got beat outside because his footwork is awful. Instead of shuffling to keep him going outside he literally turnstiles and doesn't move his feet really. 40 easily went right around him.

I disagree. 40 was immediately sprinting towards him from his blindside in what should have been a pristine pocket. By the time he completed his dropback, 40 was already in tackle formation.

Yup. Milroe has produced a lot of sacks out of adequate pockets this year, but this is not an example of that tendency. Proctor did not approach this protection correctly at all. I’m not a OLC but it seems like his approach was for a power rush rather than speed.

There's a reason why they call that the blind side...sometimes Milroe might hold on to the ball too long, but that wasn't one of those times...

Maybe this specific example does not illustrate my point entirely. However half the teams sacks are on the QB for what I described in my OP.

That is a basic QB skill that takes years to develop and generally begins in 9th grade) is really the catalyst for all the other issues. Not stepping up in the pocket which leads to him not moving forward which would lead to him running for positive gains and also contributes to him running sideways from deep in the pocket and taking a sack or jogging out of bounds for a seven yard loss instead on simply tossing the ball out of bounds.

I certainly don't mind doing the screen shots of whatever videos/plays someone asks me to do, but I'm probably not going to sift through videos and pick plays and such. I just don't have the time (or Xs and Os knowledge 
)

The amount of fail is astonishing.
Maybe we should start trying to lure some of the Ivy league kids over with NIL money. Maybe we sprinkle a few of them around to help with the dumb AF types.

Could always look at the positive, 6 dudes did their job. This play should get the LT benched tho. If #45 gets rolled or end splits the double, fine, but getting beat on an outside rush on this play is inexcusable.

That explains why CNS wanted either Ty or Buchner to take over. Butchner may have better pocket presence but showed awful touch .. its kind of strange may be just had bad game considering he was MVP in bowl game

To be fair, Funky left out the one most embarrassing screen-shot [glad he did] where the outside tackle pushed the edge-rusher backwards, accelerating him right into Milroe. I was waiting for him to collect his payment from the hogs sideline or at least get an assist on the tackle.
Pocket awareness will never beat this.
