U of Alabama better try to get some of the state media back. auburn currently not only controls every major sports media outlet, but they are running politics too. Worst part is Bama fans voting in auburn people that fund auburn projects.

This is exactly what I’m getting at. Auburn and their big boosters control the state media. They have since the beginning of the Tuberville era. Anyone saying otherwise is either whistling past the graveyard or gaslighting us.

boogs have controlled the media in AL since Bear died.

No one under 35 really cares about or follows traditional media. It isn’t trusted or followed. News is consumed through Reddit, Twitter, etc.
I’ll steer clear of the political part of it. But it’s really only one …person.

Reddit, twitter, etc are worse too but it can be hyper-personalized to say the untrustworthy bullshite you want to hear instead of just saying the mean average consensus bullshite you don't want to hear.

I don’t think it’s worse, it’s just different.
It is personalized, but so is traditional news now. It’s all bought and paid for and untrustworthy and that’s why people are mostly either radicalized or apathetic now

I suppose I’m making the value judgment that is better for social cohesion for there to be a shared lens on reality that is propagandized BS than 350m different ones.

quote:Yes, they have for some time. For some reason U of A doesn't want to believe or try to fight this from happening. They seem to just give in to everything auburn wants or does; OR their head is so buried in the sand from a massive ego, they can't see what going on around them. Unfortunately I believe it to be the latter.

I have no idea how they are still in business

I hate to spoil the narrative, but Al.com actually is profitable right now, they are one of the few media organizations that has figured out how to monetize the Internet.
And you know how they’re doing it? By running clickbait and fluff and by running apocalyptic weather stories every time there’s a marginal chance that it’s going to thunder.

Sounds like you have close connections to them. Hence why you are on here defending them at every turn. And yes, the site is absolutely pro Auburn. They employed anti Alabama hacks Charles Goldberg (Goldboog) and Charles Hollis in addition to running the articles from Marshall and Scabs.

I see where Jeff “War Eagle” Speegle of ABC 33/40 in Birmingham is slobbering all over AU tonight. He’s another instate media personality who’s got ties to AU. His son graduated from there.

Honestly, a good number of our posters give Goodman incentive. I am pretty convinced he crafts a lot of his articles after reading this thread. Just today his article is, “Alabama Football Teeters on the Brink”. Where might he get such an unhinged narrative from?

I read it and the patch every morning. The problem with the patch is he doesn't post until 9am most morning and they take the holidays off it seems.

Who’s defending them? I believe I made it clear in my last post that the way they do things now is repulsive to me. I just made the comment, in response to someone wondering how they stay in business, that what I hear through the grapevine, is that they are in the black.
I haven’t heard Charles Goldberg’s name in years. He was a twerp. Hollis had a fatal heart attack a few years back. Charles was a good guy.
The only thing I would offer, you can construe it as defending if you like, every media outlet in this state except Tuscaloosa and Opelika, who generally ignored the other side as if they didn’t exist, has always walked a tightrope with this rivalry because there are just as many Barn fans screaming bias from the other direction.
I got a call from a Barn fan one time accusing my publication of being biased toward Bama because a Bama preview story was five lines of type, probably one column inch, longer than the Barn preview story. I said I would bring it to someone’s attention.

An amazing thing is that Alabama fans out number AU fans in this state 2.5-1. Maybe it’s advertising dollars that AU owned businesses offer. I don’t know or maybe as someone else said, it’s laziness or arrogance on Alabama’s part. Maybe it’s decency or a sense of propriety.

It’s been 30 years since I have been involved with it but I will speak from the perspective of 30 to 40 years ago. At that point in time, Auburn may have had the best sports information/publicity operation in the history of collegiate sports and Alabama may have had the worst. I have zero idea what it’s like now.
I was an outlier back then in that I didn’t care one way or the other, I was there to do a job and I found away to do the job without having anyone hold my hand whether I was at Bryant-Denny or Jordan-Hare. But people back then who liked having their arse kissed? I’m not going to sit here and lie and tell you that it isn’t human nature to look more favorably on people who kissed your arse compared to people who weren’t just indifferent, they were in some cases incompetent assholes.
