Let this be reiterated. Not one. None of them grew up wanting to play for the Tide. That's one of the main reasons why Bryant stopped recruiting nationwide on a massive scale in the late-60s.

Auburn has some. And they are as bad as us.

That's not am issue.
Hurts and Tua and Bryce were from a collective 10000 miles from Alabama and they balled for the Tide every play

Alabama is a national brand now. So there may be a ton of kids on the roster who grew up wanting to play at Bama.

Fans desperately want players and coaches to love their school as much as they do. Truth is, though, they are all far more interested in the best opportunity for themselves.

And fans are no different. Would you rather Saban sign a 3 star QB from Thompson who loves all things Bama but won't win the SEC or a 5 star QB from Los Angeles who only cares about the NFL and NIL but will win the Heisman and deliver a national title on his way to the league?

Fans want to win regardless of where the players or coaches come from, and players and coaches want more money and better opportunities regardless of where they can be found. That sums up the very conditional relationship between college fans, coaches, and players.

That’s a lie. Plenty of our out of state guys were Bama fans growing up. Besides, it’s not like we had much of a choice, state’s been slacking on offensive talent the past couple of years.

All things being equal, if you have two players at one position and both are of equal ability, one being out of state and the other from Alabama, I'd prefer the Alabama kid. However, rarely does it work out that way.

In a perfect world, we'd have a roster of nothing but in state kids but that's not reality if you want to win big.

To put this in context, remember, something like 66% of all students at UA are from out of state. Makes perfect sense and it's one reason the University has all those nice shiny new buildings.

This is one reason I think the 1992 team was special. Most of the best and high profile players were from Alabama. Barker, Palmer, Lee, Williams, Patterson, Copeland, Hall, Teague, Langham were a few just off the top of my head. And many of the coaches (Moore, DuBose, Oliver, Rouzie) were Alabama alumni too. And Stallings being a junction boy made him almost an adopted alum.

Definitely not how it is now.

Who cares.

I would rather win and be great with out of state players, then be average with in state players.

Bryant wasn't even from Alabama.
