WTF!?!?!?

I know they said the format would be modified and wouldn't be an actual "game" but this fricking sucks.

Well, I guess I'll go so I can say I went to the last A Day they ever had. Although in reality it was probably last year's that was the final A Day game.

WOW, I remember when Saban used it as a recruiting tool and begged fans to show up in droves so we could get national coverage, etc. Now, less than 20 years later, it appears the school is phasing it out. Boy, times have certainly changed...

What an awful decision. Byrne is literally begging fans to subscribe to Yea Alabama and donate to NIL and they can't be bothered to find a way to stream A-Day?

Hell, put a stream link behind a paywall on Yea Alabama, but to not give Bama fans around the world a way to watch (without being in BDS) is extremely shitty.

I wouldn't put this all on Byrne. Several schools aren't having spring games at all.

In a world where money drives everything why not televise it? I would go in person and then watch it when I got home. I don't quite understand that decision.

Teams are scouting your talent at spring games. The portal opens back up and coaches say, “Hey, we saw you last weekend and you looked like a guy who could help yourself to a wad of cash here at mega-boosters university.”

Nebraska has basically cancelled there’s and gone to a modified non televised offering for this reason. It is just the way things are right now.

Coaches that I have heard talk about this say it has lots to do with NIL and the portal. They don't want other schools seeing guys on their roster that might not be starters but good enough to play for another school that will poach them in the spring.

NC State's coach said he has 2 new coordinators and doesn't want other schools seeing things they might run.

Both make sense as arguments but it will be disappointing to me as a Bama fan in another state to not get to watch the game.

Imagine Bama poaching a guy from another school because he lit up a spring practice game.

They already ruined it last year by turning it into just an open practice.

The golden ages of college football are officially past. Its becoming less and less fun for fans. I know that I am stating the obvious, but shite sucks.

I wonder if the university will make a statement acknowledging how it sucks to have to do this or will they just keep it passive aggressive.

Yep. That first Saban spring practice...where fans on their own, without any organized campaign or free concerts, etc just showed up...that might be the peak of college football in general. Things didn't drop off drastically until post-2020...but that era was so fun...not just because our Dynasty was beginning...recruiting was more fun, just following the team was more fun.

Sad what they've done...and there's alot of blame to throw around. They say "it's more popular than ever"...my guess is that the embrace of gambling is the factor...which has a whole separate set of issues.

I think this is largely the motivation. Plus, I think the recruiting motivation is long dead. Recruiting is about the fit, playing time, and money now. The players in any revenue program basically only take online classes now. They're not a part of the campus culture besides when they're on the field. They're all well compensated people with no debts and subsistence expenses, so they can just get in their Bugatti and fly on the highway to the nearest major metro club or tiddy bar.

We have guys low on our depth chart who would start for a lot of teams.

Not sure how much A-Day games contributed to the golden age, honestly.

Wonder if they'll do like the nfl and have teams scrimmage against each other?
