"Because we have the money" isn't a real answer...The OLB coach only coaches that position. Is he having issues doing the job? If he is, just hire another OLB coach. Damn shame the OLB coach can't handle the job for such a small position.

Yes there is. Jason Jones is the assistant DB coach.

I wish we could get more experienced guys instead of coaches friends

Why do we need an assistant OLB coach?

Because our HC felt he needed an additional person there. Seems pretty obvious.

If Pruitt truly is clear to be hired due to his lawsuit why the hell would he settle for an assistant OLB coach position?

Exactly. if he was cleared, he should be higher than that position. Thats the point, they wouldn't even look at him for a lowly assistant position just to see if he would work out for them. He deserves better. But our coaches would rather get someone with no SEC experience.

Pruitt doesn’t belong anywhere near this coaching staff. He’s the kind of guy that would undermine the whole damn thing. Screw him.

I think zone makes some sense tbh. Gotta switch coverages up against quality QBs.

Indiana throws a lot of slants and quick passes. They depend a lot on YAC. Gonna be interesting to watch defense adjust.

Because there’s value in having an extra set of hands and eyes.

NFL teams usually have a primary and assistant at every position group. Definitely ought to help give the whole depth chart at a position the attention they need. The coaching limits really sorta robbed the back half of the depth chart for years. I think Saban even said things to the effect that you've had to pick your 50 or so players to invest in during the season because there isn't the time or bandwidth for the others.

Saban had him on his staff for years and thought a lot of him. What are you saying about Saban judgement of him? I'd bet you money if Saban was still coaching he'd hire Pruitt today if he was available.

We will never know, will we?

Pruitt is a loose canon with a huge ego. That guy doesn’t need to be coaching linebackers unless you’re hoping he will stab your other coaches in the back. Kinda like he did with Richt.

He wouldn’t do it to Saban, but he would to anyone else.

I don't even get the allure of Pruitt without the Saban structure around him.

We've been building a roster around playing zone heavy defense that occasionally brings pressure but really wants to get to the QB with four down. He may coach a position group fairly well but he probably doesn't have the tools to run the scheme he did previously here as a DC.

By my memory, they haven't really hired anyone who wasn't already here that is "Saban coaching tree." This staff is not trying to recreate the Saban schemes. It's over. Frankly, that defensive scheme was getting stressed out by modern offenses and we probably needed to move on from some of the things Saban was stubbornly committed to for the last 5-6 years of Saban's tenure.
