They also have a good defensive rebounding rate and don’t turn the ball over. A team that will give them trouble is one who can turn them over and play in the half court.

One good thing is they don’t force a lot of turnovers.

We don’t match up well with them, but should beat them 8 out of 10 times.

Also it’s not a given they will beat Vanderbilt.

They have a very good defense. They are fourth in the nation in opponents points/game, second in the nation in opponent 3pt made/game and fourth in opponent 3pt attempts/game, out rebound their opponents by 10/game, tenth in the nation in not allowing opponent's offensive rebounds, and don't put people on the line. Gonzaga is second in the nation in scoring but St. Mary's held them to 58, 67, and 58 in three games this season and beat them twice.

They run about 8-9 deep. Starting guards are 6'4", 6'3" and 6'3". Expect them to run us off the 3pt line and not foul the driver because they are good in help defense. We'll need to shoot better on the open looks we get and need our bigs to play big. We definitely have a height advantage if Nelson is healthy and Cliff and Sherrell play well. Jarin will be a key match up issue for them if he plays smart and stays aggressive.
I've watched them a few times. They play super disciplined team defense, but they have nobody who can stay in front of Philon, and once you get into help rotations on us, good luck.

That WCC title game was an absolute disgusting offensive display on both ends. 1/31 combined from deep. Gonzaga got wayyyy better looks though.

Auburn people are mentally ill. They always blame their misfortunes on Alabama. So glad I’m not a member of that cult.

They have all those stats but who have they played?

I understand which is why we should beat them, but they've done well against Gonzaga all three games this season and I've watched them several times. Those Lithuanians they have are solid and the team is disciplined.

Just saying it won't be a cake walk

Their top scorer is similar to Kasparas Jakucionis from Illinois that we played against earlier in the season

They'll play off him to keep him out of the lane and dare him to shoot. If we can get Friday Philon, good. If we get the one from Saturday, not so good. Typical of a freshman.
If he can knock down a couple of threes, that will be big.

They won't body up the dribbler like we do on defense. They're playing the shot clock and slowing the tempo this year. In year's past, they were up and down more like us.

I really don't like EvanMiya this year. His player metrics are all out of whack. His BPR has Duke's 8th best player only 30 spots behind Mark Sears. And in his top 10 freshman ranking, #1-4 are all Duke freshman, Pettiford is the only SEC freshman in there, and he is 8th. Philon, Tre Johnson, Asa Newell, Jeremiah Fears...etc, weren't in it.

Valid points. How about Ryan Williams’ metrics?

The @SEC is 185-23 against nonconference opponent. That’s an 89% winning percentage. Never in the history of college basketball has a conference had greater than an 82% winning percentage. A 14 bid league from the greatest conference in @NCAA history is quite fitting.

Obviously anything can happen but that’s what makes me believe an SEC team will win it all. Honestly Auburn, Florida, Bama or UT. With Houston, Duke and maybe way outside Michigan State.

It's almost like they forgot they got to play in Birmingham two years ago as the 8 seed and playing Houston as the 1 seed

Is our AD on the NCAAT selection committee? What makes them think we could convince the committee to do anything at all?

Worse, they were a 9 seed. So they got a home environment in two games while cannibalizing the attendance of their rival (and overall #1 seed).

Poor Auburn.

Joey Brackets says ...

Alabama will need to defend well to repeat last year's NCAA tournament success. But there's been something slightly off and occasionally undisciplined with this squad at times, which I think will ultimately end in a we-don't-play-that-way upset loss to Saint Mary's in the second round.

Hopefully Lunardi misses his prediction
