Shula was an Iron Bowl hero in The Kick game and represented Bama well, IMO. He took over a dumpster fire and was the bridge to Saban. Happy to see him doing well.

Other than when they play Bama, I hope he does really well. Mike clearly made mistakes as HC but talk about a lost cause he inherited. I remember even CNS (then LSU HC) said about Mike at the time "I don't think anyone could have done a better job under those circumstances."

Scholly reductions and major injuries hampered him badly. Still had a 10 win season in 2005.

He had to put up with some real knuckleheads too.

DJ Hall, Jimmy Johns, Juwan Garth/Simpson. Just a strange era for Alabama football. For as average as those teams were, they never laid down. That defense in '05, along with the games against Florida and Tennessee that year, are some of my fondest memories as a bama fan

He was always sort of meant to be the patsy to eat the worst of the sanctions while being a classy ambassador for the program that kept his nose clean from any major NCAA misdeeds.

Considering that the worst thing that happened in his era was the textbook scandal that was really just UA's SUPE Store having a really exploitable system for book vouchers that some athletes figured out how to game, you can't even really blame him for that incident. It wasn't something that the Athletic Department did but the NCAA made sure to make a mountain out of mole hill of it. That was an early digitizing of point-of-sale systems gaff not a real compliance issue.

Good man who stepped into a terrible spot for the school he loved. I was really happy to see the fanbase show an outpouring of love for the guy when Carolina came to town this year.

He's done solid work as a coordinator in the NFL, especially with Cam. He'll be good there.

Out of the “Mikes”, he’s my favorite.

Was on campus when he came in, great guy, humble and appreciative. Very happy for him.

With players getting paid now, it is time for the NCAA to reinstate those 21 wins from 2005-2007.

Not sure if the 8 wins and one tie from 1993 can be reinstated too. Is it still illegal to sign napkins?

The NCAA reinstated Penn State's wins from almost 40 years of Joe Paterno shielding Jerry Sandusky. I think we can disregard their opinion and just reinstate them ourselves.

Still don’t like his coaching decision vs UF in 2005 with Croyle and Prothro still in the game in the 4th.

Hope Mike does well, he's always been a very solid assistant coach.

I don't know if he wants it anymore, but if he does, I hope he gets a shot at running a program again.

Man, I was at that game. Top 5 loudest I've ever heard Bryant-Denny. Always wonder how that season ends if we put in the backups and Prothro never breaks his leg.

He’s fine as long as Dave Rader doesn’t have anything to do with it.
That guy left a bad taste.

I’ll never forget the look on Urban Meyer’s face as he was introduced to the SEC and Bama. And yes, I’m sure Shula might like to have that decision to do over again. It was a tragic injury for Prothro but it could have also happened in the 1st quarter. Who knows.

So we'd better get ready for the Jumbo Package on the road next season.

Yeah I genuinely feel bad for how Shula's time at Bama(as HC) played out. He absolutely was in over his head but very few HCs have ever been in a worse talent/expectations situation. He definitely had integrity which is a rare trait in that profession.

During the Shula era I met a member of the UA women's golf team. She had interacted with Shula and had only good things to say about him. Said that he treated the female student-athletes with the utmost respect, and demanded the same of his players.

Several games are up there. I think the 2015 game vs LSU when Fournette couldn't do anything while Henry ran rampant is probably the loudest game I was at under Saban. Lost my voice before halftime.

That game was won the second Arkansas knocked off Ole Miss and opened the door for us to get to Atlanta. You could hear the cheers slowly building across the stadium as people got the news.
