Naming the field for Saban is an honor and a well deserved honor at that.

It's certainly an honor, the problem is that it's not an honor commensurate with Saban's accomplishments.

There is a pretty big difference between Bryant and his 29 years of service and Saban with his 17 years.

You sound like those LSU/fAU fans making the "quantity vs quality" argument when it comes to our recruiting.

I think Duke’s court is named after Coach K and he is responsible for every National Championship in program history. Bobby Bowden built FSU from the ground up and only the field is named after him

It’s pretty rare to have fields and stadiums named after you in the 21st century. Does Dabo get his name on the field at Clemson? If Kirby doesn’t win a few more championships, will we be seeing Smart Sanford Stadium?

Yeah and how often does anyone refer to Duke's court or FSU's field? The point is that naming a court/field after a coach isn't enough for someone who has accomplished as much as Coach K or Saban (leaving Bowden out of it as he was a great coach but not GOAT level).

Every time I watch a Duke game I see K’s name on the court

Not saying it’s fair but people that were first have advantages in being named. I imagine it’s a legal nightmare to try and get the heirs of Denny to try and remove the name and BDSS sounds clunky.

Bowden is so far above any other coach in FSU history though. His impact on them is Saban-esque

Feel like it should be Denny Field at Bryant-Saban Stadium tbh

Should be and is Denny Chimes on the Quad, which across from the president’s mansion but Bryant Saban on the football stadium.

It’s a fine thing to have monuments and stadiums and even football fields named in your honor for that person accomplishments.

But it doesn’t cement their legacy. When ppl think of Coach Bryant they don’t think of Bryant-Denny stadium, they think of a iconic man and the University of Alabama, championship, winning and some of the best players to ever played the game.

And it’s the same for Coach Saban. Ppl won’t think of Bryant-Saban stadium or a field. It will be a standard of excellence that Saban and the University of Alabama and the players that played for him that will cement his legacy

Saban will have awards, streets, buildings and foundations named in his honor, but it’s not what he’s about. It’s a standard of excellence. Aight.

Yeah, because it's essentially visible the entire game (see image below). Is "Saban Field" going to be painted all over the field?

1. I can't imagine it's anywhere close to a legal nightmare.
2. I can't imagine any Denny heirs would object.

I mean, some people might?

But you're essentially forced to think of Coach Bryant when you think of BDS.

Has anyone considered that they consulted with Saban before doing this and he declined having the stadium name changed and said the field was enough for him? Seems like a possibility that would be in character for him.

I think it would also be in character for him to not demand that his name replace Denny's on the stadium, regardless of how he truly felt.

It won’t be visible, maybe for a season or two, but eventually it will be forgotten just like the majority of the fields that are named at other SEC stadiums. Outside of Kyle Field, when is the last time you recall seeing anything or hearing anything about any of the named fields at SEC stadiums. When you consider the list of field names throughout the SEC ask yourself, is this really an honor deserving of Nick Saban? Clearly it isn’t close to what he deserves. The man rescued the Alabama football program and changed the face of the University, the city of Tuscaloosa, and the sport of college football. I’m extremely disappointed in the University if they think this is adequate.

List of SEC field names:

Arkansas - Frank Broyles Field at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium

Auburn - Pat Dye Field at Jordan-Hare Stadium

Florida - Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

Georgia - Vince Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium

Kentucky - Kroger Field at Commonwealth Stadium

Mississippi - Hollingsworth Field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium

Mississippi State - Scott Field at Davis Wade Stadium

Missouri - Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium

Texas A&M - Kyle Field

Vanderbilt - Vanderbilt Stadium at Dudley Field

Well the Denny’s don’t own naming rights to the stadium, UA can likely do whatever they want.

maybe rename it BDS Stadium. but then again, most all college football fans recognize the name Bryant-Denny when they hear it.

As much as it pains me to admit, coach k is duke basketball and it’s still called cameron indoor stadium played on coach k court. Roy Williams saved UNC basketball from the doherty disaster, won 4 chips as an assistant and head coach and it’s called the Dean E. Smith Center on Roy Williams Court. Y’all getting too worked up over what’s named what. I think Sabans perfectly happy being known as the GOAT.

Half of you young squirts have no clue what the hell you're talking about. If not for Denny, Bama football would NOT be what it is today.
