The state of Alabama has voted for Republican presidential candidates since the 60s. Has that elevated the state?
I live in California. The same can be said for this state, also. It has been, largely, Liberal for the past 30 years, and the state is becoming unbearable. A number of large corporations have left for TX over the past few years.

California is light years away from Alabama economically. The problem with Cali are taxes, regulations, and social stuff. But even with the higher taxes & regulations, Cali is still on another planet as us economically.

I responded to your post.

Dem House passed the voting rights advancement act. GOP Senate won't even put it up for a vote. If they did, would the President sign it? I think he might, but why isn't he calling on the Senate to pass it?
Again great for window dressing and nothing more. The Dems control the house and are pushing for what in that bill? Trying to create an advantage or not lose their advantage for a demographic that supports their views and helps them win an election and nothing more.
Tell me is their voting bill going to prevent groups that support the Dems like Acorn from registering fake names and dead people?
That is no different then the Dems trying to get Puerto Rico and DC seats in Congress. If you honestly think they are doing it to better the lives of those people you are naive. The have an agenda and that is control of Congress and the White House. No different then the Republicans. The only thing I give credit to the Dems for is over the last 30 years they have done a better job of changing their agenda to better market to specific demographics to get votes.
But keep trying to convince me and others that Pelosi and her gang are any different. She really understands the needs of those living in housing projects and people facing food scarcity wearing a different 3k a day.

I really interested to see the next 10 years for Cali and Texas especially with current perceptions of them and Texas likely to close within 5 million of population of Cali by then. So many unknowns but a love people kind of defining ideas of these places. I look at places like Plano and Frisco and the numbers of directions they can go and then I look at places like Sacremento and surrounding suburbs and it is really interesting. Of course if Cali burns down and falls into the ocean all of this is moot and ai hope it doesn't.

Don't forget the fight over water, high crimes rates, over population in their major cities. and more gangs then any other state.
Also go ask all the people of color there how they feel about K Harris record for sentencing people of color.

I just wanted to share this because I couldn’t believe it

Kansas has always been the midwest Florida. None of this surprises me
. The most 2020 part of this guy is not mentioned here which his involvement in revenge porn. All this story needs is a wild life preserve and a pastor involved and it would be perfect.

That's in spite of everything that you stated. California is, also, a much larger state with more major cities, 40 million people, closer proxmity to JAPAC for international business, more natural resources, more major corporations, and numerous top 100 universities that send graduates into society to create economic gains. Look at just a few of the industries in California: maritime, film oil, agriculture, banking, IT, mining, and the list goes on. That's the difference, economically.

calgrad you moving out or you sticking it out.
I have to say even with all the problems with no coronavirus Cali is still easily top 5 landing spots for a move. Cali with a 90% tax rate on fire and in the ocean still beats out a good part of the union for me.

Do the House Republicans have an alternative? The whole point of 2 parties and a bicameral legislature is for both sides to iron out each other's flaws and help the people.

Is this true?
Absolutely.
I had to spend 3 weeks there in July while we were in the process of moving to Texas. The roads are horrendous, the local businesses and franchises have fled to Pearl, Madison, Flowood, etc.

Anecdotally of all the people I know who live in Mississippi the only people who talk positively about where they live, live in Jackson.
Oh don't get me wrong. I love being from Mississippi. I think it's probably the least racist state in the entire country. Blacks and whites grow up living, working and praying side by side. Jackson has just turned to ruin.

I love getting these perspective. It just shows how different the human experience is
. I know a couple of people who live in Jackson now, one who moved about a year ago and they absolutely love it. As far as visits to Mississippi outside of my trips to the Casino, they were very much like your buddies experience in the Northeast
. I have had a couple of buddies who have had thier worse experiences with racism in Mississippi too. Place I've seen the most racial harmony, Jacksonville, FL
. Not an indictment on MS, I have had some good times there too and a few bad incidents among a group of people isn't indictive of a place.

Even with all of those issues, my quality of life is high. I can go hiking, to the beach, pull out the KTM, watch a live playoff game, and finish it off with one hell of a night at the Foundation Room.

Stayed south of I-10 I presume. I love my town and all, but you're literally the first person I've ever heard this from.

It’s almost 3 p.m. Time to turn off major appliances, set the thermostat to 78 degrees (or use a fan instead), turn off excess lights and unplug any appliances you’re not using.
We need every Californian to help conserve energy. Please do your part.
On second thought, maybe Jackson isn't a shite hole after all.

Yeah probably an over statement on my part for sure
. What I should have said was for the brief time I was there I hung out with lower middle class folks of different races together and had a really good time. Honestly it probably just the limited group of folks I was with for that period of time that gave me that impression. Also those people I met there and every time I meet Jacksonville folks up in the Northeast they are generally great people and talk highly of thier home town so that probably continues to enhance my view, but honestly I wasn't there that long to get the whole landscape.

Isn't that a tweet about voluntary energy conservation during a heatwave? Doesn't seem so awful.
Posted on 9/6/20 at 9:54 pm to TideSaint
So the experts on all that clean energy can't keep the lights on?
