Was it nice to have a shot at competing for a national championship? Sure. However, I would have also been very content with winning the SEC and then going to the Sugar Bowl under the old BCS system. I hate this attitude that we have of "national championship or bust."

I know the goal is to win it all but I hate how people are going to think this season was a failure because we failed to meet that goal. This team accomplished a lot this season, especially when you consider what we were looking like back in September.

Fans of other teams will tell you this season was a failure. It was not. Melters on this board will melt and have you thinking the same thing.

It was a good season. These guys over achieved.

What in the name of participation trophy is going on here? Of course its national championship or bust. It should be. David Ortiz isn’t texting Derek Jeter to say “We’re better, we had more 5th place finishes than you!”

This team definitely over-achieved. Especially if you consider who their skill guys are. There's not one stud on offense in the starting lineup.

Beating uga and denying their 3peat will forever give me joy. And to think, they were only a few plays from going on to Houston.

No, it shouldn't be. As an old school Alabama fan who came up before the advent of the BCS, the two things I cared about most in a given season were the following:

1) Beating Auburn
2) Winning the SEC title

Winning the national championship was definitely an added bonus but defeating the archrival and winning the conference always came before a national crown. Why? Because this began as a regional sport. Only in recent years has it become nationalized and emphasis has been placed on winning the national championship.

I'd argue Bond has stud potential.

I agree. Law too. But what is a Ferrari with no gas? Gotta have a qb to get them the ball. They'd both be 1000 yard receivers if Tua was qb.

Undefeated in SEC play with a young team and massive turnover in personnel plus two new coordinators. Started out shitty, played in the third to last game of the season. This just doesn’t happen at other programs. Saban is the GOAT, and this season may have been the greatest testament to that fact.

Honest question though: how does the most talented roster (by far) in college football overachieve with another ugly performance and loss?

Yeah and I don't know when you came up but Bama fans have always been chasing a title every year and that was before the BCS

Because BAMA's qb is a liability.

I think the difference between us and Washington/Michigan, they have better OCs than we have. Grubb is brilliant. Rees, not so much.

Michigan was an experienced team, this was the third year in a row they made the playoffs with those guys. We had a first year starting qb, new OC, our offense overachieved and we took a good Michigan team that will likely win the NC to OT and had chances to win, really should have won, had it won, thats what hurts most about it.

Their quarterback play is the major difference and it's insane to me that anyone would suggest anything else.

This is Penix’s 5th year starting and McCarthy’s 3rd. It’s Milroe’s first. They should be better they have a lot more experience.

I agree. We had a hell of a season and over achieved.
