I read somewhere where he said he sits in on offensive staff meetings but only gives his thoughts when asked. Maybe Saban made a point of asking him or having someone ask him before the UGA game.

“I think we gotta play more physical,” Saban said the media on Monday. “I think we’ve gotta be more aggressive in terms of how we come out of our hips, play with power, whatever it is. We’ve gotta try and dictate when we’re in the run game and get moving. We did a better job of that in the second half. And we gotta try to give our players a chance with some advantage runs when we do try to run the ball. So pass protection was an issue at times. But we just gotta do a better job of staying square. The quarterback’s gotta do a better job in the pocket so that the O-line knows where he’s going to be. “So there’s a lot of things we need to work on when it comes to pressures. We gotta have a good plan for how we block them. There’s a lot of things that I think we’re capable of improving and I have a lot of confidence that the players will go about it the right to get it done this week.”
Coach Saban drops so much knowledge in his Monday press conferences, while also using the press conferences to motivate his team. This has been his formula since he has been at Alabama. It seems that many of our fans don’t pay attention to this.
While I understand that how/ why the issues that need to be addressed are fixed makes for good conversation and internet fodder, the bottom line is if an issue is called out on Monday, by Saturday there’s almost always improvement.
This has been true despite an absolute incredible amount of turnover in his coordinators and assistant coaches. Yet some of our fans still question COACHING?.

Sounds like Nick called out his OL coach in that PC

He sure did. Here's hoping Marrone turns the corner.

If you see the SI article today on the 80 year old DL consultant Saban calls in regularly, I would assume he has an OL guy as well.

About UGA not blitzing, the stat i heard was that they blitzed 44% of the time. The OL just came to play, for whatever reason.

Almost all of that was in the 2nd half though. Most of the first half they sent 4 guys.
Here’s a video showing only and all of Bama’s offensive plays against UGA’s defense

And the players

Just read that Pendry is "Special Assistant to the Head Coach". I wonder how long he has held that off the field position. I also wonder if he indeed did have an impact after the Auburn game, why he didn't have an impact before that game.

Perhaps Saban rode with Marrone as long as he could, but when it came to crunch time he knew he needed a better offensive line coach. I hope that's it, because it will also mean that Marrone will be gone after this season.

Pendry has assumed the on field role while Marrone is out. Doug really needs to take his time and focus on his health.

Don't rush yourself back, Doug. I would suggest quarantining until at least January 11th.

Get well Doug. we'll have security at your house to make sure you are okay until Jan 30th.

I cannot understand why UGA didn't bring the house and make the line show they were improved since Auburn. But they didn't and we really don't know if our line can handle that yet.
Ga thought they were better than what they really were....Kirby is still coaching like its 2009.

First of all we spread them out, and made it harder/more risky for them to bring extra rushers.
Then there is their lack of a dominant edge rusher. That's a big problem for them vs Bama.
A good OC is licking his chops when the other team is bringing a lot of blitz so one would hope Bama could actually be prepared to make them pay for the extra pressure after having over a month to figure it all out.
Bryce grew a lot as a QB down the stretch. He will probably be better prepared to understand the pressures, and where to go with the ball in the playoffs.
Everything is riding on someone stepping up in Metchies place. The offense has really struggled when there is only one elite WR on the field. With Jamo out vs Barn, and with Metch out vs UGA second half.

The media has downplayed the losses from Georgia's defense in 2020. They lost the vast majority of the secondary along with Aziz Ojulari and Adam Anderson rushing the passer. They're still still excellent in the front seven but they had to really bring pressure to affect Bryce. Michigan has two terrific pass rushers and a salty secondary.

Bama better be ready should they face Georgia again, can't imagine they don't start bringing the house early. A big plays early would be huge.

I think at least one or two of the young guys are going to play great. This will be their coming out party.
