Brent Vigen (the HC at Montana State) is the other finalist.

I hope Bama assistant coaches hold out for better jobs than this one. The former PAC10/12/14/16 is fixing to be a joke of a conference. I am not even sure they would be considered a G5 conference.

I think it depends on whether or not Oregon State is committed to upping their NIL game and facilities and what kind of salary we’re talking here.

I would think that with their new conference etc that they would not be able to keep up with any of the schools on the west coast who are in a P 4 conference. The TV deal cant be making them a lot of money.

The timing of these coaching searches is awful. NIL, the early signing period, and the transfer portal have everything messed up.

Yup, I feel like jobs like Oregon State are sorta like where Jim Mora Jr types are going to live. Downwardly mobile veteran coaches. Just looking to stay in the game, so to speak. Upwardly mobile coaches like Shephard should probably wait for a proper Power 4 opportunity before making the jump.

This is not the job I'd take if I were him. He's going to struggle mightily getting talent.

Yeah, I would think he'd leave to take a primary OC job at a good school where he'd call plays, and then his chances of landing a good P4 HC job would increase.

He's a bit stuck at Bama right now because if Grubb leaves, I'd think Sheridan would get promoted back to OC instead of giving Shep play-calling duties.

I hate it because I think Shep is one of our best assistants but I do think he needs to go somewhere as a P4 OC primary play caller.

Not a great job but can’t really blame him. We have folks here wanting to fire DeBoer if we don’t make the playoffs. Where would something like that leave Sheppard? Go, take the job, make probably $10 million for 4 years work, maybe less years if it doesn’t go well, and you can always get a position job later if you need to.
