I will wait until we play the next couple of games to give the kid any kind of grade at all. I don't think he has progressed as much as I have been told just based on last night but again, he was playing against a jacked up, elite, NFL level defense. I didn't think we could win with 100 yds through the air but that defense. Wow. Gonna have to find guys not named Ridley.

The defense is elite but the pass rush took quite a few steps back. Did it more with 4 last 2 years but had to use exotic blitzes to get it done last night.

Not concerned with OL yet. FSU is gonna do that to every team on their schedule this year. Cleaned up the penalties.

We are definitely a playoff team. Game was closer than the score indicated but I believe the 'Noles are a legit top 5 team.

Roll Tide and I thought we would see Wills.

Bama seems to have a weak link on the OL since 14.

14- Leon Brown
15- Dom Jackson
16- Everyone that played RG

Womack looks it he will be the weak link this year. Need to try Leatherwood or Wills at RT.

This... Jalen was running for his life most of the game
some missed blocks up front needs to get fix, but then again it was a damn good D they was trying to block against.

Running for his life makes Hurts a much more dangerous QB, though, so it's not always a bad thing.

No one is calling his GOAT. It's just that some of you want to put all the blame on him. He didn't play great. Fact is the OL gave him little to no time to throw almost every time he dropped back to throw.

This and all of this. My god it was FSU they are built like us lol. I'm very happy with this outcome and not happy with the OL.

I will give them a pass just like we give one to Hurts. That DL of theirs is fricking beast man. Looked better than ours.

Still not sold on Hurts as a passer and his longest play for a touchdown was to a wide open guy. You have to give him credit for making the play but to use it as proof that he has greatly improved is hyperbolic. Let's see what he does next week but it was obvious by play selection that the staff didn't trust him like Jimbo trusted his guy. Look forward to seeing him against a normal defense. That FSU defense will be playing on Sundays.

I'll grade him as a B-.

But, as with everything in football, it's a team sport, where great OL play can make a QB look NFL all pro-like, etc.
He didn't get much time. Look at our RBs. Didn't look too good, either.

But. it's fairly clear that Jalen's strength this year will again be his legs.

Without his mobility he may have been killed last night.

These are all basically my feelings as well. I think we tried to pressure with just the front early in the game to see if we could get there and couldn't last night. Started bringing more pressure with blitz packages in the second half and little by little took control of the game. Still a little concerned when our secondary has to defend against big tall physical receivers in man. I mean, Anthony Averett sometimes gets beat simply because of his lack of height. He usually has excellent coverage and a bigger receiver just high points the ball on him. I guess there really isn't much you can do in that instance.

As for the offense, I think they are as athletic a defense as we are. Under the circumstances, I think the OL held their own. I believe they will get better each game. I feel like FSU probably blitzed 80% of our offensive snaps. I know Jalen did not really have time to go through his reads and never really had a clean pocket. One more note, I am not sure if our staff wanted to stay away from the middle of the field because of FSU's talented secondary or if that will be a recurring theme throughout the year. Like you guys have said, I hope we can start to use the middle of the field a little more. Overall, a great effort and big win! Glad to have my team back on the field. RTR!

What?...we should have hung another 17 on them. The play calling was inexplicable. I don't think I have seen a team come unglued like FSU did in the 2H in awhile.

So did they. I am pleased with the outcome. They were tough.

Which is why the 'should have played Tua' crowd gets me so rustled. If you want to see how a quarterback only slightly less mobile than Hurts would have fared, visit a FSU site today.

It seems as though you have the unique ability to criticize Hurts without being downvoted to hell lol

Take away the wide open throw to Ridley and he had 40 passing yards on. the. night.
I understand the way the game went, we didn't need a lot of offense, but our offense looked straight-up bad.
There wasn't a single play Jalen made that he didn't make last year. I saw no improvement.
But specifically, as someone said, from the neck up. He should know when Derwin James lines up on the edge, where he's going in a blitz situation. You beat the blitz by making quick decisions - it's not uncommon for a QB to face pressure. It's called getting the ball out quick. Then watch how the defense backs off.
If Jalen needs 4 seconds and a crow hop to make a pass downfield, we're not gonna fare well against the good defenses we face.

I agree on Hurts. I could believe he actually got worse. Too much blame on oline play when you finish with 96 yards passing, all of it to 1 WR, and 60% of that was on one play.

His whole job is to not turn the ball over and run the ball.

He threw Ruggs open flawlessly but the frosh just couldnt quite reel it in. He also threw a laser to Jeudy for a key 3rd down conversion that was negated by a penalty. Also dont forget the PI on Ridley that would have been another TD.

He aint elite as a passer by any means but he also showed some anticipation and touch that we didnt see last year, even with the FSU D in his face all night.

Did anyone see Florida's QBs yesterday? IJS

You are reaching, but he just didn't perform. We have no passing game as of right now. Teams are better off just stacking the box and playing man. You may give up a deep PA ball every once in a while, but we only got one of those last night.
