It blows my mind how so many people missed on so many players from a single position group. These guys were highly touted players coming out of high school and they all flamed out. I guess it's the universe getting us back for the perfect storm of incredible wide receivers that have come through Alabama over the last decade:
Amari Cooper
ArDarius Stewart
Calvin Ridley
Jerry Jeudy
Henry Ruggs III
DeVonta Smith
Jaylen Waddle
John Metchie III
Jameson Williams

Javon Baker became the #1 WR at UCF; I always thought he had the most potential of that group. Wish he would’ve stayed as he might’ve given Bryce a reliable target in ‘22…

I think the 2020 recruiting cycles and the few years following were more difficult to truly evaluate guys. The lack of camps which is the true bread and butter of our evaluations led to many more busts

I thought Brooks, Earle and Hall all had difference maker level talent.
Brooks never popped in terms of separation on the field. To me he was Jeudy with less athleticism.
Earle looked like he was running routes at 75% of his HS highlight film, I assumed it was an injury situation there.
Hall was a guy with an NFL ceiling, he just didn’t have the drive to play at Bama and might not want to play at all from what’s been said about him at Texas.

JoJo was an odd situation.
Had HS tape that rivaled Noel Devine’s. Cracked the starting lineup/played a ton as a true freshman.
And looked slow doing it.
After his first couple catches I remember thinking “wow, this looks noticeably different than his HS tape.” It jumped off the screen how slow he was in comparison.

Earle surprisingly didn’t play much at TCU either.

I still think they sped his game videos up and got away with it because of COVID limiting in person evaluations. You don't go from looking like a 4.35 guy who accelerates like he's shot out of a cannon to looking like you're out there with ankle weights on unless you blow out your knee, Achilles, etc. and that was never the case with him. A nagging leg injury may have explained how bad he looked as a freshman, but he has looked slow throughout his college career.

I suspect he got hurt at some point and never got his explosive burst back but again I'm just speculating.
What I know is that signing Leary and Earle and neither of them being an explosive twitch slot guy really limited our offense for a couple years.
We have a deep threat (Bond)
We have a Metchie/possession guy (Burton)
We need a fast twitch slot guy (Law? Benson?)

I think some of our WRs fill multiple roles:
Bond - deep threat, quick in slot / out of the backfield
Burton - possession, semi deep threat
Benson - possession
Law - flexible due to athleticism
Prentice - shown flashes of quickness in slot
Hale - developing WR#1
I could be off, but that's my take.
