Think about this: look how quickly one school provided stadium security footage of the guy sitting in the seat using his phone to video the sideline the whole game. That took some significant effort to find the seat, find the video of that seat, and download the footage.

Not as much as one may think. They are just using a facial recognition program that uses their video footage. May be a little tricky for those that were sent tickets but at that point they know where to look as well.

I would guess most major stadiums have it and capture everyone at the gate entries.

Maybe. But they still had to determine which camera would have that seat in it's line of coverage. And they still had to watch the video for three hours...they confirmed that the guy took video the entire game.

I still think they have someone on the inside feeding them info. Why an outside firm was brought in and what evidence they seem to have to get a meeting with the NCAA on behalf of who we do not even know yet.

I have a feeling the NCAA has not said much because they may have all they need for the first time up front in a case like this.

I think it's even easier than that. I think this idiot bought tickets using his real name and then transferred them to whomever was filming the game.

With most major college programs having entirely digital tickets, it was probably pretty easy for them to track the sales and find the seats.

Devastating reporting from Bruce Feldman. Said that he and other reporters at the Athletic asked coaches how much of a difference this cheating made to the outcome and for them to rate it on a scale of 1 to 5. 95% of the coaches rated it as a 3 or above. Some coaches said it could given the cheaters a 21 point advantage in a game. Most of the coaches thought the cheating was very serious. Starts at minute 3 of Youtube video. LINK

Also, Paul Finebaum at 1:00 said it was extremely nefarious and could be the biggest scandal in college football history. 3:54 LINK

I think Michigan needs to be disciplined during this season and not after the college football playoffs. It their team wins the championship and gets the fruits of the cheating, no one at Michigan will care that they got caught cheating.

NCAA has:
-video evidence of the guy stealing signs at multiple games over multiple seasons
-video evidence of him on their sidelines
-video evidence of him communicating with UM coaches to use the signs in-game
-financial records of him being paid by UM coaches and boosters
-I’m sure there are texts which they have between him and UM coaches/boosters
-he was shown to have been sent to CMU to steal signs and coordinate with McElwain against Michigan State
-Harbaugh was already suspended for two games this year for covid violations
-FBI is investigating them for hacking computers to gain an advantage

Bottom line Harbaugh is done. I doubt they wrap it up in season but he’s gone with a show cause and will hop to the NFL.

I would be shocked if UM doesnt vacate last season and this current season due to the obvious competitive advantage they gained.

It’s important to note this almost went nuclear in the B10. Teams were threatening not to play UM because the B10 was trying to slow play it and had to get involved or games were going to be cancelled. That would’ve caused a media rights issue with Fox, etc so I don’t think they can put this genie back in the bottle.

You may be right but I just don't get it WHY the NCAA and the Big 10 are taking so long to come down on Michigan. Personally, I think the following should happen to them:

1. Forfeit all of last years games and all of this years games.

2. Michigan loses ten scholarships per year for the next 5 years

3. Bowl ban for the next 3 years, including playoffs

4. Harbaugh is banned for life from college football

5. Michigan is on 5 years probation

Of course, I doubt any of that will happen. It SHOULD happen but probably won't.

Aren't they already on probation and have other investigations going on?

The punishment should be even more. They should get the death penalty because this has been going on for at least 3 seasons.

It's probably the biggest cheating scandal just based on the sheer scope of the cheating operation. I mean if you're talking any scandal Baylor and Penn State are still way worse scandals than this.

Reminder that Brian Kelly and Notre Dame sent a kid onto a hydraulic lift during windy conditions and it fell over and killed him. No one seems to care. Even that is worse than cheating, at least to me.

A few questions regarding this as I am not up to date.

quote:

-video evidence of the guy stealing signs at multiple games over multiple seasons

Has anyone actually seen footage of what he recorded? I heard somewhere it may have been found on a laptop but everything seems to be speculation outside of that. As I have yet to see it confirmed. Just curious.

quote:

-video evidence of him communicating with UM coaches to use the signs in-game

Isn't this an assumption as I have seen photos of him with the coordinators but nothing else during the games.

quote:

-financial records of him being paid by UM coaches and boosters

Please provide a link here. I know this was being talked about when the costs were brought up against what he makes but had not seen actual evidence of this yet.

quote:

-he was shown to have been sent to CMU to steal signs and coordinate with McElwain against Michigan State

McElwain and CMU denying this as everything is pure speculation right now except he was there on the sideline.

quote:

-FBI is investigating them for hacking computers to gain an advantage

Had seen some rumors from OSU side their computers may have been hacked but is there a link to a story?

quote:

Bottom line Harbaugh is done. I doubt they wrap it up in season but he’s gone with a show cause and will hop to the NFL.

If all this is true I doubt the NFL will take him.

It goes back at least 3 years if the stories out there are correct.

Do you have a link for this?

Again just curious as I try to avoid the rumor mill and want to see the legit info out there. Thanks in advance.

Especially with the scope of what is being reported. This is well to planned out and seems was still going on.

Curious how they do now with games coming up against OSU and PSU. Who I am sure have changed their signs.

The answer to when Michigan will get in trouble is simple. If they beat OSU, and are undefeated going into the playoffs, it will be after the season. If OSU beats them and it doesn't affect the big 10s playoff chance, it will be during the season.

I wouldn't trust other Big 10 coaches on this story. Of course they're going to say it cost them 21 points, they want to bury Harbaugh.

I don't need coaches to tell me how significant it is for an opponent to know what I'm calling every play on offense and defense and how much of an advantage that gives them.

I can't believe this is being defended or rationalized on here because we have literally lost a championship to Clemson due to this same kind of operation to aid cheating.

It makes an enormous difference and the team caught having an entire operation with that level of details needs to get a significant death penalty

In a tight game, it can make all the difference in the world. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

So why dont they just do like Saban said. Do like the nfl does and let the coaches send in the plays electronically to the QBs and a defensive player. It cant be that expensive, so why not do it?

NCAA, as always, stands in the way of progress because their regulations are geared towards protecting the lowest common denominator.

i'd guess that the fact that saban said it on live tv would be enough for the boneheads at the ncaa to nix that idea.

Not only would it not be that expensive, but im sure a company would provide all the headsets to all the schools for just a little bit of advertising. Being able to say they are the official provider for the NCAA and all the schools would be an easy investment for them. Plus I'm sure some could be written off as business expenses. That way schools would only have to buy the replacements.
