Is it possible Mack Wilson left because he had no confidence in Golding?

Mack played for Pruitt who is one of the best DCs and his play dipped precipitously under Golding. Since we all have a better view of Golding's body of work as DC, I think Mack was between a rock and a hard place and made the best decision for him instead of staying under a DC who is learning on the job.

I think Mac was playing Mac

Mack looked good in the national championship game against UGA yet he sucks the next season? Nah that was coaching.

I can imagine what the former players are saying about the current DC as they know well the talent that's on the defense.

Mack cared more about Mack and getting to the NFL

Nothing's wrong with that. Mack would be a fool to stay and languish under inept coaching.

Mack was gone no matter what, his family/camp either had or were fed delusions of grandeur.
But I get this is just another shite on *insert coach here* thread that is gonna be on this board for a while.

Mack's camp likely saw what's plain as day now. No need in staying under a DC who is being outclassed.

That's certainly the narrative that conveniently aligns with your point.

Players talk strategy too and they typically know their own abilities very well. It's inevitable Mack saw the drop off in coaching going from Pruitt to Golding. No need to stay for that.

Why would anyone waste time wondering what Mack Wilson might or might not have done? We're not talking about Hightower or Moseley or Ragland or Foster here. Wilson blew more than his share of assignments during his time here.

You made my point. Look at the DCs those guys played for and look at Mack's play under Pruitt and Golding/Lupoi. And, now Mack is an NFL starter. No way Mack just sucked once Golding took over. Golding is the problem.

I've always thought we should have hired a veteran DC.
The fact that Saban paid Lupoi $1.1M last year...30% more than Venables made in his 8th year at Clemson...would be comical is it wasn't our team we're talking about.

I understand paying Lupoi that much. Recruiting.

What I don't understand is not calling out piss poor coaching but wanting to dog the players especially when I highlight a player who has sucked only under one particular coach. Mack Wilson balled before and after Golding but Mack is the problem? That's nonsensical.

This is one of the bigger reaches of the day.

Maybe I'm reaching but it's peculiar to me how Mack's play dipped only under Golding

Coincidentally the year he sucked, he saw much more playing time than the previous 2 seasons. Easier being #2 in a rotation than a full blown starter.

Mack left because Mack was focused solely on Mack.
