Tennessee Offense
- Total Offense : 346 yards on 54 plays (6.41 YPP)

- 180 yards on 51 plays (3.53 YPP)

- 166 yards on 3 plays (53.3 YPP) (Passes of 70, 57, 39)

They got basically 50% of their total yardage on 3 plays. The other 48 were basically nothing burgers. Those 3 also either scored or led to 21 of their 24 pts. The other 3 were off the blocked punt.

Crazy, but also the perfect microcosm of this defense.

Defense overall played really well. It's maddening that they got two of their three TDs off Jobe looking at the sidelines and an inexplicably stupid roughing the punter that extended the drive.

It was literally 3 coverage bust TD’s they legit drive and scored 3 points one time. Had our secondary not been out of it, the score is 52-3. Either way it was a beat down.

Didn't even do that. The 3 pts was off the blocked punt at our 15 or so.

It's so damn frustrating and yet encouraging at the same time. It's in there, but the longer we go without showing progress on that stuff the harder it is to believe it'll get fixed.

I can’t argue with that. The team is so good sometimes and then mistake ridden at others. It’s likely the youth on our team but if we turn the slightest corner we will be a really good team.

I actually noticed this near the end of the game when looking at the box score. This is why I think focus is actually our primary issue on defense. Scheme isn’t necessarily terrible, just not elite. Communication could be lacking as well. But focus seems to be a central theme in every major blown play we’ve had this season. Players simply not staying aware of their objective.

From shooting the wrong gaps, to not realizing who you’re responsible for in a developing play, to approaching a tackle with poor fundamentals, to literally not being ready when the ball is snapped. Focus is a tremendous factor is each of these.

Now keeping a team focused is definitely part of a coaches job. The silver lining here is focus related issues are probably the quickest ones you can fix due to them having a lot to do with preparation by staff and players, and conscious choice by players. A bye week could do wonders to refocus the squad moving forward

Part of the concern. I know some people think that it’ll just get better with time and they’ll start reducing the mistakes, but that may or may not happen. It’s 8 games into the season and stuff like this has happened in multiple games. Mistakes and inconsistencies could just be part of how they play.

Our special teams have really hurt us on several occasions this year. I hope #81 is no longer on punt protection!

Also focus related errors. The more I think about it, the more that focus becomes my primary scapegoat for our poor performances

We shut them down especially on the ground. They were averaging like 230 or 250 on the ground coming in.

The one on Jobe i don't really blame him. He had done that several times. Their coaches saw it and to advantage. Our db coach should have noticed it and corrected him. Davis also did it a few times.

It's part of the gimmick of Chumlee's offense. Line your receivers up 2 yards from the sidelines so that communication with the DBs becomes more of a challenge.

if this were the first year under golding for this to happen, i might buy into "its the players focus", but it isn't. i do however believe it is a communication problem. i believe the main issue is golding has a superior head knowledge with little ability to teach. ive listened to his press conferences. hes a fast talker with quick answers. i had teachers like that, that i didn't learn much at all from. oh they were sharp, just couldn't get whats in their head out of their mouth in an understandable way.

I wasn't trying to imply that it was an issue of poor focus. It was 100% one of the many communication issues we have become accustomed to seeing every Saturday. It's just that UTk's little alignment gimmick with their receivers takes advantage of that weakness with our defense.

Nobody Busts or mis-aligns more than The Tide.Of teams that can actually play. And has been for several years now. This defense would be better off and commit far less Gaffes if they just stayed in their base and played Quarters in the back end.Instead we have guys who arent on the same page when we pass off and trade in our combo coverages...And it will happen some more without question. We dont have Minkah back there.
