If the rehab is what we're hearing it is what do you think about Tua using a redshirt...

Next year and at that point either choose to go out for the draft the following year or come back to Alabama to prove he can stay healthy and that he can still play.
His worth in this year's draft just dropped by tens of millions, should he not take advantage of the University's insurance/facilities/doctors and stay here, rehab and redshirt next year and then make his decision? If he decided at that point to go out for the draft he could prove himself capable at the combine or he could come back to Alabama to play his final season proving it on the field and actually earn what his talent deserves.

This would probably be the natural progression of things if Tua wasn't injury prone.
Due to hus history of consistent injuries I doubt his parents would let him stay. As longs he gets a decent enough draft grade, I would want him to go anyways.
I personally hate seeing players get hurt and really I can't take Tua going down again and needing another surgery.

He may opt to come back, redshirt, rehab more, work with the team and enter the draft without actually playing for Alabama again.
Who really knows right now...let’s just pray everything goes well during and after the surgery. It’s going to be a long road regardless. The best thing we can do is support whatever he decides to do.

What is the expected recovery/rehab time?

I think it would be a good move for him to rehab with us with a redshirt year, and then whatever he wants to do from there I'm cool with. He can transfer to auburn and win a NC for them, just want him to get to the NFL

If it's my boy he gets his masters while rehabbing, and getting UA to handle his physical therapy. Also the support of the team would really help Tua through the mental side of rehab.
Assuming they dont need the immediate paycheck that is.

I think healing is 16-20 weeks and total recovery is like 6-7 months.

This...I’m pretty sure he won’t be able to participate in the nfl combine. I think it’s in their best interest to come back to Bama...not necessarily playing for them unless that’s what he wants.

The NFL has seen what he can do. I doubt he needs the combine. Moses probably can't do the combine yet either. Tua may not get taken in the 1st round, but he'd be a "steal" taken a little later. Sounds like he'll be ok to work out and practice by next summer. If he can play the 2020 season at Bama to get high 1st round $s, he just might do it.

He shouldn't try to use a redshirt. If he doesn't go into the draft this year, then he should try to get back on the field as soon as he's healthy or leave the team and just prepare for the combine and go into the draft next year.

He really shouldn't step on a college football field again.

If he isn't going in the 1st round, he loses millions of dollars. That 2nd NFL contract is never guaranteed.
If he comes back and plays even half the season and proves he is fine and stay healthy, he is a top 5 pick in the 2021 Draft.

If he goes to the draft and I think he will and yes he will drop to a 2nd or later round due to the injuries it still may be in his best interest. He would not have to worry about getting drafted by Miami where the OL is terrible or by some team who is rebuilding. His drop in the draft may actually put him on a contending team with a starter or may only have a few years left.

You never know what is going to happen. Rams gambled on Gurley with a top 10 pick and it paid off. Different injuries, but based on top end potential, a team may roll the dice earlier than you'd think. But, they'd do so knowing Tua isn't realistically available to contribute in 2020.
Falling late to the Pats, who would sit him for 1+ years to heal and learn the system, would be awesome. But, honestly, slipping into the 2nd rd wouldn't be bad either.
It lowers expectations to play early. It allows for a 4 yr contract vs getting stuck with a 5th round option as a 1st rd pick, so he can renegotiate to get paid sooner for his second contract and have plenty of time to rehab. Plus, endorsement deals are still going to be there.
Someone is taking him. I'd be surprised to see him try college again. But, you never know, he is a stud. Loves his family and may enjoy another year helping his brother and team in a different role. Would be best backup in the country by mid- to late-Nov if he'd come available.

I highly doubt Tua takes another college snap

Yep, if surgery / rehab goes well I feel like no way teams in need of qb stability dont take a shot if he is there in the 2nd

Let's say, just as a possible scenario, it looks like he isn't able to set foot on a practice field before September 1, and he falls to the 1st pick of the 4th round. Last year that was a 4 year contract with a total of $3.3M, including signing bonus. Figure after taxes, that's going to probably be $2M, tops. That's $500,000 a year for four years.
Anyone who has ever seen the Tagovailoas at a game knows that it's a fairly large extended family. How much of his family is he going to want to take care of? None of us really know that. I think one thing's for certain though...he needs to make enough on his first contract so that he's set for life in case he never signs another contract. $2M net to take care of his family and also himself isn't that much.
The #16 pick in the first round got $13.5M. The #1 pick in round 2 got $8M.
I think we all agree he would have an outstanding career in the booth after football, whenever that day comes, if that's what he wants. It's impossible for any of us to know at this point what he's thinking.
None of us really know what will happen. If I had to bet money today, I'd bet that he's back at Alabama next year.

There is no way he will be in shape to show out at the combine. Teams are going to want to see him play after all of this.

Good post, and thank you for those numbers. Interesting to think about what will happen, but like you said, its a sit and wait situation right now, and everyone can agree that the desired outcome is for Tua to be as healthy as possible for the draft, whether that be next year, or '21, and make as much money as possible.

I don't understand or agree with this line of thinking. He is a football player and probably a very competitive dude. No way he stays at Alabama next year without playing if he is able to play. Redshirt? I don't think so.
IF Tua decides to skip this year's draft and remain at Bama next year and IF he is healthy by fall practice then I would bet the house that he is starting quarterback and taking a redshirt would be the last thing on his mind. His family lives here now and his little brother is on the team.
I think that he declares for the this year's draft personally and I also believe that a team will take a chance on him a lot earlier than folks think.
