Man, I'd love to have a long term DC like Clemson's had for years. This could be it since he's failing so miserably as HC

I'd love to have him back. Best DC we've had.

No, based on the tremendous job he'd do again as Bama's DC.

I guess if you think he’d quickly get hired at even a decent P5 job after what he’s shown as a head coach so far you and I will have to disagree. UT gambled on the unknown in hiring him. Nobody else has to take that gamble.

McElwain was a proven commodity that posted winning teams at two different locations. Their HC resumes aren’t even comparable.

I think that many President's and ADs across the country have a disease of hiring retread failure coaches. I've seen it for decades. The Ron Zook's of the world can keep getting jobs if they want them, and Saban could rehab the image of Beelzebub himself.

Ron Zook is several classes above Pruitt as a head coach. Several.

Pruitt took over a bad team that has been bad for a long, long time. It's obviously not easy to win there.

I have a rule: every coach gets 3 years. There's way too much that needs to change about some of these programs to judge them earlier than that.

Didn't Butch win 9 games twice at Tennessee just a few years ago? That Tennessee job isn't nearly as bad as folks make it out to be. Tennessee keeps hiring incompetent ADs and that's why they are fricked.

But my real point here is that I believe Golding is doing a good job. I see no reason for Bama fans to be clamoring for an old DC who left us for one of our rivals, instead of supporting the coach and players we have.

Again, we are top-10 in every advanced metric that measures total defense (advanced metrics account for opponent strength and garbage time), and we're doing it with more than half our front 7 missing before the first month of the season is done. I think Golding is excelling, and I think many Bama fans are spoiled and unreasonable.

I also think Smart was a better DC than Pruitt, although I didn't like how he got away from the blitz late in his tenure. Of the best defenses under Saban, Kirby definitely coached the best 2, and maybe the best 3.

No one is "clamoring" for him to replace Golding.

But, he is an Alabama alum who has produced two national championship defenses for two different programs.

You don't see the appeal in that, regardless of how he fares as a head coach?

We looked good today. Adding Pruitt as an analyst if he's fired isn't going to change that either.

Did you think he was excelling last week?

Of course we're spoiled. We're used to having dominant defenses. We haven't had one since Pruitt left.

My over-arching point here is that I want less coaching turnover at the coordinator positions. I don't care at all about the analyst position.

I'm intelligent enough to judge the whole, not the part. Yes, I think Golding has done a bang-up job, overall.

Neither has Pruitt.

Bring him back as an analyst for the rest of this season and put him at DC for next
