Hot take....I think he is better than AJ.

Now AJ was clutch in big games so that remains to be seen from Mac

He is absolutely money in the mid-range deep ball

To the more astute viewer, where does Mac’s arm strength sit among Saban starters?

We haven't had a ton of noodle arm QBs - Blake Sims and Jake Coker both had big arms, AJ didn't have a huge arm but it certainly wasn't weak. McElroy and JPW clearly down at the bottom. Tua has a good arm but it's not super-elite.

I'd say he's right up there at the top, to be honest.

My thoughts as well. Plus he looks natural throwing passes with distance and drive

Agreed - that's what I've noticed. He seems to do a really good job at knowing when to gun it and when to put touch on it.

He's as good as anyone we've ever had at the swing passes. And that's one of those things that people will just say "well yea it's easy", but it really isn't. He does a great job putting it in stride for guys on those sprint swings. That's the difference in a TD/20 yard gain and 4 yards.

Also - from Saturday (per SECStatCat)

Mac Jones

23 attempts
20 accurate throws
3 inaccurate throws
87% accurate

For comparison
Kyle Trask - 42 attempts, 32 accurate throws, 10 inaccurate throws, 76% accurate

Terry Wilson - 37 attempts, 23 accurate throws, 14 inaccurate throws, 62% accurate

Bo Nix - 27 attempts, 16 accurate throws, 11 inaccurate throws, 59% accurate

There is an "old" guy down at Tampa Bay. Watch the way he moves in the pocket. Watch what he does without a rocket arm but good touch and placement. Watch how he deals with pressure but scrambling is not a strength...only does it when he has to.

Calm leadership under fire. Knowing what to do with the ball and when to do it.

A high end tight end would be Mac's best friend.

Mac was 1 of those great flip commitments Saban got a few years ago.
He was to be a marquee member of Kentucky's 2017 signing class.
I remember hearing M.Stoops being so disappointed.
He most certainly would have been their starter the last couple years.
Great to have him on our side.

I think he is a better passer then AJ. Probably the 2nd best passer that Saban has had at QB.

I still can’t get over that ball he threw to Waddle for a TD. Just an unbelievable throw.

One last thing - per SECstatcat - "uncatchable throws"

Matt Corrall (OM) - 6 (24%)
Bo Nix (AUB) - 5 (19%)
Shawn Robinson (MIZ) - 3 (12%)
Terry Wilson (UK) - 4 (11%)
Kyle Trask (UF) - 4 (10%)
Mac Jones (BAMA) - 0 (N/A)

24 passes, 0 uncatchable balls, 0 interceptable balls

Incredibly good

accurate throws

I don't know how they quantify accuracy, but I really like this stat for a QB as opposed to completion percentage, which obviously rewards and penalizes based on the shared performance of the receiver.

Somebody watches the film and grades it. So, there are some things up to individual interpretation, but it definitely gives a better idea of how a QB played than completions/total throws.

I think AJ had a stronger arm, as he could really rocket the ball in there when needed. But Mac has good enough arm talent, and his touch and accuracy are maybe already better than AJ ever had.
my impression is the opposite, looks to me like mac has the bigger arm

Mac seems to have gotten stronger in the offseason as well. He showed some zip on some of his passes and knew exactly where he was going, the guy has it and that’s all you can ask for

Pruitt has Missouri this weekend. In his presser, he was quick to remind everyone that Missouri won the second half. My goodness, pretty sure we were ahead 35-6 when Mac left the scene at the end of the 3rd quarter. So Pruitt probably knows we won 3 quarters and then it was mop-up time.

But I don't blame him, I don't think they just cakewalk this Mizzou team. They have a nasty defense and pretty good run game. Closer than the vols think.

I made a troll thread on the rant in the offseason saying Mac was the next Joe Burrow and while I don’t think he is gonna be the #1 pick, I definitely think he can win the Heisman and make himself an top 3 round pick. Mac also has a Burrow like Swagger/confidence about him.

I wouldn't be surprised if Missouri beats Tennessee. Missouri has some NFL guys on that defense.
