I did not see Mac Jones being AJ McCarron x2, but he's there

(1) Look at how smooth this little hop back is when he feels pressure from his right. He knows he wants to take the shot, knows he needs room and knows a guy is about to either bear down on him or push the TE into him. Calmly takes a quick hop step back in rhythm.

(2) Knows he is going to get lit up straight up the middle into his face/chest.....waits for Waddle to clear the middle and throws a touch pass 25 yards in stride to the corner.

(3) This throw is just absolutely gorgeous

Before the Arkansas game last year I thought Mac Jones was Alec Morris. I did not in any way shape or form think he'd turn into a high level, quality SEC starting QB. Very glad to be wrong.

Yeah he is outstanding. He was under pressure last year as well. He only got better.

I definitely got the same flashbacks watching him Saturday night.

He seems to know who he is, knows what he has around him, and be completely comfortable in the role of facilitator - but a facilitator who can push the ball downfield and do things under less than perfect circumstances.

And the playcalling matched that sort of overall feel - we got tons of weapons, we're going to use them all.

Did you see the clip where ESPN was going over pocket presence / movement against Michigan?

Yep - which is even more impressive given his super limited experience at that point. As they noted, he didn't run drop back passing schemes at Bolles School - they ran the wing T. So, footwork associated with typical QB dropbacks was something he'd really never done against live-action until he got to Alabama.

Also, Sark is an excellent QB coach.

He's also had 3? years in the system. He's had more time to mature than Tua and Jalen. I've always felt like Jalen situation had a potential negative impact on his growth from year 1 to year 2.

I mentioned in another thread that every pass he threw was only catchable by our WRs. I did not see any pass thrown by Jones that was going to be an INT. These 3 clips demonstrate that.

Agree. Mac has come a long way. He's got that moxy you love to see in QB's. He reminded me of AJ last night as well, except I think he may be a little quicker/more mobile. You have to respect a kid who comes in with Tua, waits his turn and then shows out. At this point, you start to think he could leave after this year for the NFL rather than transfer to make a path for Young.

his first pass down the middle was in the hands of the receiver (dropped it) but there were 2 defenders. I felt confident in Tua throwing that ball but most qbs are taking a chance in that situation. Breaking down film he may find another receiver as open with 1 defender.

And he should of had 2 more TDs. The one where Waddle hit the pylon and B Robinson's drop.

Very impressed with Mac's outing. Stood in the pocket and took hits, great ball placement and seems to demonstrate great leadership. I hope he enjoys a great year, not just for the team, but seeing a guys hang in there for the full time waiting his turn and then have success will be great and I would think very rewarding for him in many ways.

Might be recency bias, but seems like he has better arm talent than AJ.

Not sure why people doubted him going into the season. He has basically looked good every game he has started.

And they have him in the right system. Bama was methodically dissecting Missouri.

He threw a nice ball to Smitty that he came down with a couple of inches out of bounds as well. Mac had a good game. I think he's got better touch than AJ to be honest, but that might just be me Gumping.

I thought the same thing. He wasn't really off target badly on any throws saturday and dropped a few in the bucket. Ball came out with a lot of zip when it needed to. He had no fear throwing the deep dig route which is a dangerous pass that needs both timing and accuracy to stay out of trouble.

He's a sure fire draft pick with the potential to be a high one. Better mechanics than AJ had.

Would like to see him scramble a little this week. I know he isn't the fastest QB we've had, but it would still be nice to see that ability is there when it's needed and that he knows when to tuck and run. LSU isn't undefeated last year without that skill from Burrow.

Mac does a great job at moving within the pocket and keeping his eyes down field (so does Bryce) which a QB either has or doesn't have.

I think AJ had a stronger arm, as he could really rocket the ball in there when needed. But Mac has good enough arm talent, and his touch and accuracy are maybe already better than AJ ever had.

He’s a more mobile AJ. They are both tough as hell too.
