A-fricking-MEN
This is what I loved about Pruitt.

This defense was like a wet pussy out there today, just like they have been all year long.

The more I think about it Golding is in over his head. We need a change on that side of the ball. Our defense is now sloppy.

I doubt it was that as much as Saban thought he could help him out with the defense and actually keep a DC around for a while.

In any event and for whatever the reason Saban hired him as DC, I don't think it's working.

Yep, Saban was serious about reducing the turnover he has to deal with coaching wise.

He went with the younger guy who, on paper, had plenty of promise and had built a great defense at UTSA.

Now this is reminiscent of Billy Napier being over his head at Clemson as OC. He just wasn't ready for it, yet.

Dunno, just liked the idea of bringing on Pelini.

At Bama a DC is going to run Saban's DC with some of your own nuances. At LSU you're given full autonomy on defense. That's how LSU looks to be able to bring Pelini back. Plus, Pelini has a respectable record as a head coach and I get the feeling that LSU wants to have someone; a stabilizing force on staff if the wheels come off on Orgeron.

Not only that but it appears the defense makes the same mistakes over and over again.

Twice this year...including a critical one against LSU...we had interceptions wiped out because we couldn't get players on and off the field in time and had illegal participation penalties.

That's not missed tackles or blown assignments, although those also happened.far too often.

Maybe Saban knew the two personalities wouldn't be able to work together.

I think the Bo Pelini / LSU marriage is great. Bo runs (or did run - hope he still does) a 4-3 two gap system. Adjusting from the current LSU system to the new system will take some time. Much like Alabama, the players (Mike above all others) have to think and adjust constantly.

Set the defense, the O shifts the look then puts someone in motion. While the D is making multiple adjustments the O snaps the ball and not everyone is set to run the new call. Or some of the DL run one call while the LB's run a different call. Sound familiar to what we saw from our defense this past year?

Pelini also likes to run a single high safety to get one additional safety closer to the LoS for run support. Waddle on an RPO play side slant and Smitty on a backside SLUGO after a shift will eat the Pelini system up.

It will take the LSU DL long enough to get the system down that it may cost them a couple of games on the front half of the schedule. The way that Sark uses shifts and motions will give the LSU DB's/LB's hell adjusting on the fly.

I can't wait to see Ed & Bo go at it on the sidelines.

LSU has 7 guys on the 2020 projected depth chart that are 4-3 two gap DT's and not a single 4-3 DE body type. DE's have to be more sleek pass rushers and edge setters. 250-260 lbs range rather than the 7 300 lbs guys they have.

My problem is more about the Bo and Coach O dynamic. Pelini won’t be very good at taking orders from O. It reminds me of that offensive coordinator they hired a few years back. Can’t think of his name

I think you're mistaken. Pelini will have complete autonomy. My concerns are with our defense.

So now the SEC West will have:

Nick Saban
Coach O and Bo Pelini
Lane Kiffin
Mike Leach
Jimbo Fisher

And Auburn and Arkansas round it out with a high school coach and a guy who looks like he's from Squidbillies.

In all seriousness, I don’t think bringing Pelini on is the best idea. He just got hired by LSU and I remembered posting this when the wounds were still fresh from the LSU game. In retrospect, I think we actually did okay against them given the circumstances and compared to what they did against almost everyone else.
