Apparently U-Verse is also affected at least in certain markets. Regardless, I use the term "cable company" liberally -- e.g. I count DISH, U-Verse and more as cable companies.

P.S. I am just watching via antenna. I posted this thread as a service to 'bama fans in need.

I got a digital antenna from Home Depot.

The games are on YouTube this year, but they are choppy for me so I flip over to antenna.

It's a local provider issue. A couple of companies that owns a lot of TV stations (not all CBS) are holding out for more money. Both Dish and AT&T (DirectTV and Uverse) said no so roughly 200 local stations went dark.

Just my opinion, but the OTA stations have far more to lose. Most people aren't going to go to the trouble of mounting an antenna just for a single show and a few ball games. They'll stream it from somewhere but they aren't going to that trouble for things like local news. They'll just watch the broadcast of the competitor that's still being carried.

You don't really need to mount an antenna. Just buy a decent digital and plug it into the tv.
Better picture than streaming.

I called Dish and they sent me a free digital antenna to plug into the back of their box and CBS works fine with it.

Depends on where you live. I'm 20 miles from the city of Montgomery and without a roof mounted antenna the only channel you will get is PBS. All the local stations' towers are located out of town so they can cover the area south of Montgomery.

Youtube Video Explaining the Local Channel Disputes

this was posted on of the other boards, sums it up nicely.

These large companies buying up local TV stations, is the problem. At this point probably looking into setting up an antenna in my attic

It’s funny how it’s always CBS.

It isn't always/just CBS. Those companies own TV stations that are affiliates of all 4 major networks and several minor ones like the CW. All their stations went dark on the carriers (Dish & ATT) that didn't sign agreements.

CBS gets attention here because they carry the SEC game of the week but somewhere in Big-12 country there are people bitching because their local Fox affiliate went dark.

Oh ok.

I don’t subscribe to any cable-satellite service and the only channel I ever see posted around here is CBS. I didn’t consider the relevance of CBS popping up all the tine because they carry SEC games.

You don’t need All Access for the SEC games. They are always free.

I cut the cable about 5 years ago so none of this is a problem for me.

I have an antenna from Amazon that is about as think as a piece of paper and fits behind the tv. I think it was about $25. Picture is superior to DicerTV and Xfinity streams I’ve had previously.

I thought you could only watch live TV if you had All Access?

Regular CBS, probably but CBSSports.com streams the SEC game of the week for free.
