Blake Sims was the QB for one of the most prolific offenses to ever take the field for Alabama. This team did go on to win the SEC Championship, including road wins over Tennessee and LSU as well as a home win over Defending SEC (and Iron Bowl) Champion, Auburn.
Yes, he had talent all around him, especially #9 but having talent doesn't guarantee anything. His ability to run had to be a factor for opposing Defensive coordinators, so to dismiss that is a bit unfair.
If we are fortunate enough to just plug and play our QB, then that's awesome. I just dont think playing QB at Alabama for Nick Saban is something that just anybody can do. Otherwise, why waste a scholly (sometimes 2) on the position every season?

Cornwell was at practice, so it doesn't look like he is going anywhere as of now...
Coker and Morris separate from the other QB's.
Dime Rabbits package shown on D
Corners: Cyrus and Marlon
Safeties: Geno and Eddie
Star/Money: Minkah and Maurice
LBs: Denzel, Reggie and Reuben (Dillon shadowing)
DL: A'Shawn and J. Allen
Shank was still holding down the starting RG position.

Alabama returned to the practice field Wednesday afternoon, as the Crimson Tide players practiced outdoors and in full pads on a sunny, 82-degree afternoon in Tuscaloosa. It was the team's 18th day of fall practice.
Here are several tidbits from the media viewing portion of Alabama's 18th practice session on Wednesday afternoon:
- Senior Jacob Coker once again led the quarterbacks line in the viewing periods, followed by redshirt junior Alec Morris.
- In the second of two viewing periods, the QBs split up into two lines. As it has been for some time, Coker and Morris made up one line, while David Cornwell, Cooper Bateman and true freshman Blake Barnett made up the other.
- Coker and Morris threw to the wide receiver line that consisted of Chris Black, ArDarius Stewart, Richard Mullaney and freshman Daylon Charlot. The other line was headed by Robert Foster and behind him was freshman Calvin Ridley, Derek Kief and freshman Deionte Thompson.
- Toward the end of the viewing portion of practice, the Crimson Tide defense appeared to line up in its dime rabbits package. Cyrus Jones and Marlon Humphrey were the cornerbacks, Geno Smith and Eddie Jackson were the safeties, Maurice Smith and Minkah Fitzpatrick were the extra defensive backs, Denzel Devall, Reggie Ragland and Reuben Foster were the linebackers -- with Dillon Lee shadowing Foster -- and A'Shawn Robinson and Jonathan Allen were the defensive linemen, although they were standing up.
- Alphonse Taylor appeared to be working as the right guard in what appeared to be the team's first-team offensive line.

this tells me Brown has a nagging injury. Should be a shoulder that he hurt during track season last spring

I like Devall but I think Anderson, Williams, and Evans have all shown themselves to be better at rushing the passer. Disappointed to not see any of them in rabbit

On my drive home, I saw a box truck emblazoned with "Cornwell Tools". I'm sure it's an omen of some sort but not sure how to interpret it

i agree but i fully expect to see at least two of them on the field rushing the passer in obvious passing downs.

i doubt his running track is over. I read where this was a huge selling point with Hump and if NS says that either one can run then it will send a message to future dual threat sport stars.
He also took a huge hit that banged up a shoulders. Shoulders are a bugger to recover from and it may need surgery and if so those treatments takes months to get over.

Did you see the number 16 anywhere?

I'm sure Minkah will start next season along with Hump. If Sheffield continues to improve, he could lock the nickel down and where would that leave TB?

One day I'm gonna cry tears of joy when Field, Boundary, Star, and Money are occupied by TB, Hump, Fitz, and Sheff with Evans and Miller rushing off the edges.
Well, maybe. That may not ever happen.

but realistically speaking he has the chance of getting hurt in FB more so then in track. It was a freak fall in track that hurt his shoulder. They make great money running on a track circuit in Europe so who knows he may see his future in Track and doing the Olympics and all the fame and endorsements that come with that.

I don't dislike Blake and I definitely think he outperformed my expectations for him.
But go back and re watch the Arkansas, Ole Miss, LSU (not just the last couple minutes), Auburn and Ohio State games. Wildly inaccurate passes that sometimes left you wondering what planet what the WR on he was throwing to.
A lot of his stats were padded by Amari and even Henry having tremendous YAC ability.
In the end yes, he got it done so to speak...if the SEC championship is all you're satisfied with.
But he also threw largely avoidable INT's that ultimately affected the outcome of the season. This is undeniable. He was a great person and represented the program and Univ about as well as you could ask, so I'm grateful in that respect, but sorry I don't feel like being nice and wearing my crimson glasses ALL the time

A receiver can have great YACability but it won't matter if the QB doesn't put the ball in the correct spot.
Interceptions were a problem though and we were lucky that defenders had hands of stone on several occasions.

There were more than a couple times where blake threw a terrible pass and it bounced off the defenders chest.
The extremely bad int he threw against Ohio St was the first time I think someone caught one.

Unless you have a WR like Cooper who could allow a QB that to not be as accurate and make catches not thrown to the right spot. Why Cooper was the main option because if you got within 2 or 3 yards he had a chance to catch it. Jones could not and White had some highlight catches the times he did.
Look Sims tried harder to succeed as a QB under Saban than anyone else. His work ethic was the highest and it was always seemed to be about helping the team win vs. himself looking great. So in my opinion overall he may to this date be the best QB under Saban. But he was an athlete we transitioned to play QB and we simplified the offense utilizing the weapons we had to help ensure his success.

I didn't intend to start another Blake Sims discussion. I have nothing but respect for the guy. I'm just not worried about replacing him.
I'd also like to say that a lot of people seem to think this is kind of a rebuilding year. But, I feel better about this team than I have in a few years. We'll find a QB. Some people are worried about the WR's. I think we have 3 guys who can be very, very good. I expect the O-line to be a better run blocking unit than last year. Harris is going to end up getting a lot of carries. Drake will be a very versatile weapon. Henry will be good. I like the DB's. For the past couple of years, we've been playing glorified LB's at the safety spot. That's great for smash-mouth football, but most of our competition is spread teams operating in space. I expect a much-improved secondary. And most importantly, I think this team is hungry, and has something to prove. I like the attitude and leadership.
That said, we have a tough schedule, and football is football. There are never great odds to win a NC, but I expect this team to be one of the best in the country.

its common knowledge Saban threatened to bench him during he Auburn game.
If one of your "best performances of the season" includes you being put on pine pony notice late in the game, then I think my point is made
