Bottom line... We have a dual threat QB, but Rees is not using him correctly. Like I and others have said, we're trying to shove a square peg in a round hole.

Buddy needs to take a seat.
He's a legit one read quarterback who stares down receivers from the jump.
But hey...let's blame Tommy Rees.

No, we have a one threat QB.

He can't complete short or intermediate routes with any consistency. Very seldom hits receivers in stride.
He hits a couple of deep throws a game.
He evidently cannot read a defense and audible us into a better play.
A true dual-threat QB can run and make all the throws.
We'll lose at least 4 games with him no matter what offense we run.

I think Milroe could do pretty well running something along the lines of Auburn's 2013 offense with Nick Marshall, i.e. run, run, run, run, deep ball, run run, scramble, run, run, deep ball, and so on. I just don't think we have the dominant run blocking OL to make it actually work though. It's absolutely imperative that you stay ahead of the sticks and out of obvious passing downs if you want to play that way.

4 losses may not be the bottom with Milroe running this offense.

One read is generous. On the 2nd interception he was only reading 1 receiver. He had significant time to make the read.
And he got it wrong.
Obviously, easily, would get a JV quarterback benched level of wrong.

Broken records all over again.
Nobody is saying anything new on milroe.

Miller also said this a couple of weeks before the season started...
So does he have control of the offense, or do we need to completely change the offense to suit his capabilities?
quote:
A former linebacker in the National Football League was in attendance during the Crimson Tide’s game-like practice at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Corey Miller, who played nine seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings, came away impressed with Jalen Milroe’s performance.
The South Carolina native has been high on Milroe. Sources confirmed to Touchdown Alabama Magazine that the redshirt sophomore had the best day among quarterbacks in the first scrimmage. Miller confirmed the report with his eye witness account of observing Milroe. He stated in Tuesday’s episode of The Bama Standard that he came away ‘enhanced’ by Milroe’s outing.
“He was solid,” Miller said. “He has been my number one from day one. Nothing has changed that in my opinion. Before I saw him practice, nothing changed what I thought. I think Alabama fans should relax with the quarterback situation. They are not going to have a quarterback problem. You are making this problem in your mind.”
Miller, from his vantage point, saw Milroe look much better as a passer.
“Jalen Milroe can play,” he said. “What I saw was a guy that can throw the ball better, a guy that has control of the offense, and a guy that is confident.”
Miller said the reason Tyler Buchner was added from the transfer portal is to bring more competition, but he does not see it as Coach Saban not having confidence in either Milroe or Ty Simpson. Per sources, Milroe executed an 80-yard touchdown drive and tossed multiple touchdown passes in the first scrimmage. He has a chance to stack another quality outing this weekend.
So does he have control of the offense, or do we need to completely change the offense to suit his capabilities?

He's not lying.
We know how limited he is so why did we go away from RPO? Why didn't we use rollout to get him outside the pocket?
Not defending Milroe being bad just saying when we see it we need to adjust our play calling. Same for our poor OL.

This could potentially turn into a nasty racial issue.

The only other receiver in that play was being mugged. There was really only two options... Try to force it or run it... But here's the kicker: they had a spy on him too.
Not excusing the pick, but that play call was shite.

If you change the offense to suit Milroe...something akin to the Baltimore Ravens offense that suits Lamar Jackson you can forget a championship.

Perhaps that's part of why Saban didn't pull Jalen against Texas. He wanted everyone to see for themselves that a change was needed. That wasn't the only reason, of course. If one of the other QB's had been significantly better in practice, they would have started. Some players react better under game conditions than others, though. It may have been hard for them to evaluate how the QB's would perform in real games.

I hate to bring up race. The only people I see at this point alluding to race being at play are some (not all) black people. It's sad. Saban has had black starting QBs since I've been following him at Michigan State. Race is irrelevant in this situation.

Bro he wasn’t even reading the RPO right Saturday.
Dude would hand when he should tuck, it’s like he was just guessing instead of looking.
Even worse he was really tentative when he ran. At least last year he’d commit and use that crazy speed of his to hit a gap and pickup key first downs.
Saturday he was indecisive and frankly soft in trying to avoid contact when running.
For my years of ranting against Jalen Hurts for being limited as a passer, that dude wasn’t afraid to tuck the ball and lay a lick on someone.

The issue is that the guy has clearly never watched Jalen play. 1) he has only played in 4 games and has been pretty good…no, no he hasn’t. 2) run plays suited to a dual threat QB quick passes, and stuff on the perimeter…there again, he has no clue. The only redeeming quality of jalens passing game is his deep ball. Literally the worst thing to do is ask him to throw short passes or to the perimeter.
