Just wanted to drop in and say congrats on reaching the century mark in downvotes.

Not an easy achievement.

I’m going to say something that is going to get me downvoted to oblivion, and there’s no way I can say it without someone taking me wrong, so I’m just going to go ahead and say it. This program is never going to move forward until the memories of how Nicholas Lou Saban did things … and I’m not talking about his commitment to detail and excellence, those should be eternal, I am talking about stuff like his demeanor, etc., during practice and games … dissipates. We cannot afford to spend 40 years waiting perpetually for someone out of the Saban tree like we did waiting for someone out of the Bryant tree. There’s an element of our fan base who thought then and think now that will fix everything, but I thought then and think now that attitude reduces football to a cult of personality level and won’t work in this new era.

We were already in trouble when fans starting comparing the early Saban years to his last couple of teams, when the talk was all about penalties and “anxiety.”

People need to realize that every great coach has their own style and there isn’t a blueprint to winning it all and at the level Saban did, or else everyone would try the same thing. Of course we’ve wanted better since the retirement but there were cracks in the foundation even before that moment and I think the program is headed in a positive direction.

When we hired DeBoer I thought maybe his "offensive guru" system meshed with Bama talent would be good enough to outscore some teams in the SEC but that isn't the case.
Dude we’re a dominant OL away from being nearly unbeatable. A good OL away from being one of the title favorites.

I know that’s a very important unit and they need to figure it out by next season. But his 2nd season isn’t even finished.

Keep working on it, replace some weak pieces, develop a stronger RB room, and there isn’t much at all to complain about.

The athletes freakin love the guy and they never quit. I just can’t find it in me to be too harsh on DeBoer this early.

ETA: Plus he recruits well and seems to attract top notch skill guys and QBs.

I get everything isn’t perfect, but certainly you don’t want to derail what he’s got going this early, no?

Again it’s the eyes. Those are not the eyes of a soft man. I would not want to be on DeBoer’s bad side. Saban’s tough but he’d spew or sputter for a while in a bar fight before he got down to business. I think DeBoer would go directly to punching without passing Go. And no that doesn’t transfer directly to coaching athletes LOL.

I’ve said this before, that man was born and raised in South Dakota. He played football in a brutal winter environment because he wanted to and for a many of yrs growing up into the collegiate ranks. You got to be one tough son of a gun to play ball in that frozen god forsaken wasteland.

Bama needs to hire this guy if CKD leaves. Some call him the saban of the vaunted middle school league. What a clown.

Wait, you think our coach is good at situational awareness and felt so strongly about it that you called someone who doesn’t a clown? Interesting, very interesting. Good reminder of a life lesson I taught my middle school child about looking in the mirror.

That's the problem on this board - people hate differing perspectives - whether informed or uninformed. And there is a certain element on this board that will scream "TROLL!" at those who disagree with them and all his faithful female followers dutifully follow by raining down a cascade of down-votes. It is funny - and it is sad at the same time

Hey "Pastor" Mike, is your congregation aware of your disdain for their female members?

Nope. I just respect the women in my life and wouldn't use them as an example of the type of people who mindlessly follow someone without using their own brains. Maybe try lemmings or sheep next time.

Not a bad connection seeing we are in the season of celebrating the arrival of the Good Shepherd, Lamb of God, etc. Using sheep to describe humans that need rescuing/guidance (hint: that’s all of us) is a pretty old tradition.

Edit: Think the Pastor was referring to the examples of cults that have happened with a male leader and lots of female followers. There have been other demographics of cults, but the one he mentioned is generally viewed as the “classic cult” when making jokes. Don’t think he was purposefully trying to put down females.

IMO there’s an obvious difference between trolls and people who simply disagree. It’s the tone of the posts, and trolls not finding ANYTHING to be happy about in the performance of this team this year.

I also don’t think people who rant out of frustration when we’re down 17-0, etc., are trolls. They’re just frustrated fans.

But this thread has gotten so far out into the Twilight Zone to where I don’t know if anyone is going to see any distinctions.

I think you're a clown for comparing yourself and other middle school coaches to CKD. You are the poster child for the travel ball coach whom every adult with half a brain thinks is a freaking loser. I hate to break it to you but Braxxton and Jaxxson aren't going D1 from you taking middle school sports was too damn serious.

Imagine being in the playoffs after playing the toughest schedule in the nation, and still feeling this bad about your team (assuming you are a legit fan and not a troll).

Bama just went on the road in the playoffs, got down 17 against a team that has given you trouble in prior meetings, and still had enough character as a team to pull it together and get a double digit win.

And you think "what does DeBoer bring to the table?" is a legitimate question?

Also, two of the top programs in the country have basically given him blank checks to coach their football programs. Considering that, and where the team currently is in year 2 should be enough for you to think twice about posting this garbage. Shoot, if you thought once you wouldn't have posted it.

If you knew my middle school child, you’d know how truly funny this is. They have a ~0.000000000001% chance of “going D1” athletically.

I apologize for being a clown and a loser and will strive to be more of a winner like you. I’ll endeavor to teach my child how to be a winner like JoylessMurderball, so he too can grow up to call people names on sports message boards one day. Thanks for setting me straight and getting me and my family back to a path of being winners like you.

(Note: Feel free to continue to call names if you want; however, I’m going to get back to football discussion in my next post, and we’ll see if you can actually respond with a sports discussion that’s based on even a shred of evidence or reasonability.)

Since my action to indicate that I’ve known middle school coaches that were more detail oriented than DeBoer has sparked such winning behavior from you and you’ve set me straight, let’s see if you can “learn me” some football while you’re humbly and gracefully passing out wisdom.

Since you clearly think our coach makes good situational awareness decisions, it should be really easy to find other examples of coaches that made the same mistakes as ours since he’s that good at them. There’s over 600 specific times a P4 team played a game this year. Surely you can find 3-4 other examples of just the recent mistakes listed below that our coach has made (this is just the last 2 games).

1) dropping back to pass from inside your own 5yd line with 15 or fewer seconds left in the first half in a game that isn’t yet out of hand (or say within 20 seconds left…to give you an extra play to increase the sample size)

2) punting up 2 scores with under 5 minutes and a running clock and snapping it with greater than 15 seconds left (we snapped it at 18).

This should be really easy to find several other examples of coaches doing the same thing if these are common mistakes coaches make. Feel free to use AI (and I’ll accept 4-5 examples of each mistake using all of FBS which is over 1300 samples this year). What can I say, if I’m wrong, I’ll admit I’m wrong.
