Fundraise now and start building when there's a deep recession.

LOL. How much can they raise in 9 months?

I don’t understand the hate for Coleman. Cut some seating out and make it dome-like on the inside while keeping the building and saving money. Repaint the building grey and upgrade the concourses and concessions. Add some type of kidszone and a fanszone. Maybe add some windows and a semi-opaque roof for ambient lighting and to remove the claustrophobic setting.

If they DON’T build a new arena, Oats won’t be here long. Hopefully they make the right decision.

Yeah the images they released for the renovation are pretty amazing. It involves gutting everything inside. Plus unless you are going to build a totally new arena somewhere else either on or off campus you will have to play at least one year at the BJCC, which is closed for it's own renovation. It might not be ready for the 2021-22 season.

I'd be fine if they just came through on what they promised with phase 2 of the Crimson Standard and I'm sure Oats would be too. The problem is it doesn't look like it is getting done anytime soon.

Byrne is not the problem, the FOG boosters are the problem.

Only 2 things are going to get a new basketball arena - Oats demanding one, and boosters forking over some money to help make it happen.

Wasn't even going to begin until (at earliest) spring of 2022. The biggest thing that's going to push it past that is finding boosters to donate the remaining $300 million.

IU is the immediate threat

Is IU really a threat?

I feel like they are the NEbraska of basketball. Probably never returning to former glory. Mostly because of where they are and recruiting.

money speaks. They would have to have a fundraiser where boosters step up to invest in a new arena. Fan pressure means jack chit if money doesnt back it up.

If Pete Maravich played college ball in your arena....you need a new one!

IU is kind of like Bama in the early 00's. They're the right head coaching hire away from being back to one of the top programs in the country. Bloomington is close to enough basketball hotbeds(Inidianapolis, Chicago, Detroit, etc.) to recruit well. Heck, Purude is a harder sell than IU is and Painter has done a great job there. IU has just struck out with their recent hires. Crean looked like the answer a couple of years into his tenue, but fizzled out and isn't doing much at UGA either. Miller hasn't been able to duplicate the success he had at Dayton, and they've looked terrible this season. I doubt he's coaching there next season.

It wasnt until 2015 that we let some students have seats on the sideline. Even then, most of the student section seats are among the worst in the building

When I was in school 1975-79, we had great seats...from center court opposite the scorer's table around to right behind the goal. I don't know at what point that changed. We couldn't have had better seats. They were unreserved, so you had to be there when the doors opened.

Sitting right behind the goal to watch Leon Douglas battle Rick Robey and Mike Phillips, or sit midcourt to watch King, Grunfeld, Goose Givens, and Eddie Johnson light it up at either end. Great time to be a student at Bama if you were a basketball fan. I remember sitting at midcourt in 1978 and watching eventual national champion Kentucky with Givens, Robey, and Kyle Macy get blown out of the gym.
