Hearing tens of thousands of people scream "frick Auburn" at the top of their lungs will always bring enjoyment and happiness in my life. Auburn fans can't stand it either.

The return of this song is going to last about as long as Ben Davis playing minutes at Bama.

i think with the publicity the this has gotten combined with the words being on the scoreboards, the rest of the crowd will do enough to cover up the students. Now, when we play Auburn, all bets are off.

Have any current students ever sang Dixieland Delight in BDS? Does it mean anything to them at all? Do they even care?

I enjoy the hell out of it, but genuinely curious about this from the student's point of view if any of you are students. I think former students care way more than current students. Our current students would probably rather sing Mr. Brightside.

I'd like for them to go back to playing the "Hey!" song before kickoff like they did pre-2000 so we can all chant the "We're Gonna" version of Rammer Jammer.

They played DD during the games when I was in school 97-02 but the added lyrics were never a thing.

The cup throwing was the big issue then. They cracked down on that pretty hard though.

No way DD makes it past the Iron Bowl.

Obligatory 2014 video

2014 Auburn DixieLand Delight

I think everyone including the AD has lost sight at just what a special circumstance 2014 was. We were coming off the kick 6 and most fans had pent up anger over that. I think things have calmed down somewhat since we have won 2 more titles since then but I am not sure I would play it against Auburn this year. I guess we will have to see how it goes.

Agreed. Like getting bent out of shape about keeping a tradition "classy" when the song in question is about getting a piece of arse in the back of a truck. Let the kids sing along with that, everyone.

Personally, I think it's a bit trashy to add in the repeated frick statements, but things are as they are. But, I agree with SoG that it shouldn't be a norm worth imprinting on a variety young fans there to watch a game. Although, my kids, as most, would probably be oblivious to it.

I go back and try to watch some of my favorite 80s shows with my kids from time to time, and can't believe the amount of cussing and adult situations that I was oblivious to as a child. For instance, try trains, planes, and automobiles. The airport rental car scene is 2 straight minutes of the word frick. Yet, I never remembered it as vulgar nor do I consider it that way now and my parents never shooed me out of the room either. Kids are resilient. And as parents, I think we are a bit too sensitive today.

Also remember how that 2014 game went, it looked like Auburn was going to beat us and then we stormed back. If you look at the scoreboard you'll see we have just taken the lead so people are extra jazzed up. Given the opponent and circumstances that is as bad (or good) as it will ever be.

The word "Dixie" is worse than the F-word in this climate. Bad idea.

Would someone please explain to me what is so racist about the word "Dixie"? We are literally seeing the disappearing of the Southern heritage. And we are seeing complete ignorance about the slavery issue. The reality is that there were slaves in freaking New Jersey in the last year of the war. Abe Lincoln promised to keep slavery forever legal in the South, during his inaugural address if the South did not secede. Yet we keep hearing the war was only about slavery and you better not even question that or else!

The only reason there were more slaves in the South was because of the dominance of agriculture there. The North used child labor in its factories which was often worse than chattel slavery in the South. The vast majority of Southern Whites were dirt poor and did NOT own slaves. To those of us like me who descend from poor Whites, "Dixie" does not mean slavery, but a slower pace of life in a distinct geographical and cultural region.
