Difference in this year’s Offense

Saturday was a vanilla game plan but I feel we were more complex last night than the last three seasons combined. I loved the high low concepts of the route trees. Sheridan spread the field with four and five receivers had WKU confused on who to cover.
Last year we spent so much time in 12 personnel that we began to cripple ourselves. Two tight end sets shrink the field for a quarterback in the passing game and it becomes difficult when you have speed rushers on the opposing side.
Seeing what I saw Saturday night reminded me of the Kiffin:Sark years making defensive coordinators pull out their hair. Look at Ryan Williams’ first touchdown. Almost every WKU secondary player was confused on who to cover. We’re in for a fun ride!!! ROLL TIDE!!!!

We hit a bunch of home runs on good play design and execution rather than coverage busts.

I have been saying this for years. We had poor coordinators and it is what cost us the last three championships.
Now all that talent is getting great playcalling. We look so dangerous and the season has just start. Hard not to be extremely excited.

Read my post again. That’s exactly what I’m saying. Our innovative play design caused a few coverage busts. Look at Ryan Williams first touchdown. The corner thought he had help over the top while the safety took the underneath route of Germie Bernard.

You are correct. I watched people call you crazy for the past three years for your opinion that O’Brien and Rees were subpar. You were right all along.

You must not be watching ESPN tonight. An absolute coaching mismatch.

That's not saying much. My local high school coach would be a mismatch for Norvell. And it doesn't take an offensive genius to line up and run it down FSU's horrible defense's throat.

I’ve heard Cubelic and McElroy rave about the.DeBoer run game concepts. Sitting in the end zone lower bowl, you could see lots of pulling guards tackles and the center. DL had no idea where the block was coming from. Formby was mauling dudes on those long runs.

Tyler Booker was body bagging people.

You really want to see crazy? Go to BOL and search some of the old Pete Golding threads.
You'll be shocked at how many dumbasses defended him (looking at you TomFromBama).

Let's not jump the gun. Tommy Rees looked great in our OOC cupcake games last year

Search this forum and see how many of us were attacked when we pointed out Golding was trash back in 2019.
Took almost half a decade for people to finally realize our OCs were hiding his deficiencies.
When we point out BOB is an idiot in the first season.. again BOB is defended (some still defend him!). It wasn't till Saban let him go that people realize "Hey that guy and Golding just blew our best roster in Saban's history".
History repeated with Rees, but this time people caught on earlier and saw he was bang average.
Anyways, that is the past. I'm just glad we have some great coaching to match the great roster Saban and LDB have built

I don't agree here. We had been so use to BOB'S backyard ball it made it feel he was great.
In the end he was just an upgrade but still lacked the ability to call a great game.
I still believe there was someone on our staff that gave us second half adjustments because his playcalling completely would diverge at halftime. Then after some time he would go back to being himself... predictable

Where would you say is the point where he “looked great” in the out of conference matchup versus USF last year?

This was such a fun game to watch in person with the new concepts on both sides of the ball. This will motivate me to get to the stadium more

The longest drive the team had in the 1st half was 4 plays. The average scoring drive for the 1st team offense was 3.4 plays. Overall the 1st team offense averaged 12 yards per play. On scoring drives the 1st team had 17 yards per play.

Yeah I know. Just trying to help you out with the tl:dr crowd.
I'd have liked to see one sustained drive, but good play design and execution with superior athletes is just going to produce a lot of chunk plays.

Correct. I think we will see more home run plays this year, but we still have a big physical offensive line that can maul people when they need to.

I'm listening to their show right now, and they are raving about BoB right now, and how much better BC's offense looks this year.

Offense this year is not predictable.
