Outcomes are relative to the potential you have and what you did with it. So finishing #10 at something when you had the potential to be top 3 would be considered underwhelming.

Dallas Turner had outside contain, and was supposed to keep Daniels in the pocket. He immediately moved inside (to his right) upon the snap of the ball, and moved himself out of his lane. It was him, not Jamil Burroughs, that dove at the feet of Daniels. But he was too far out of position to make the play.

I'm an old fart I guess, and I've mentioned it several times on other topics, but how many of you are old enough to remember the 1992 Championship Defense.

Their stats are still mind-blowing ! I want to see that again !

Saban making excuses... Covering for Golding to get him hired away so he doesn't have to fire him.

Pretty sure Burroughs "stunted" when he shouldn't have which left the middle of the line wide open.

I think I have been referring to the play where Daniels scored in overtime, which is probably not the play Saban was referencing. In each case it appears that someone lost sight of their responsibility on the play. When you have a bust it makes everyone look like crap.

They're so delusional. Yet if we get a DC who lights a much needed fire in our defense, they'll be singing his praises...

So this graphic has some issues.

2020’s defense only played Power 5 opponents and was, still, rather great. I don’t think anyone called 2020 poor at the time. The spread has continued to be involved in the West, and theres. also the issue of most of these years having a second playoff game (Clemson) which ramps it up 4-5 PPG.

The expectation should be that we do see an increase in PPG from 2010-2020 (2014 first CFP, spread) regardless.

What I would want to see is Yards Per Play and Points Per Play. My expectation is it will be Pruitt having a sizeable lead and Kirby/Golding being similar range.

Everyone’s kind of forgetting that Kirby was getting roasted towards the end of his tenure., and still does at Georgia some years (Texas). I think Pruitt’s defenses were just that much more dominant.

Pruitt was a great DC, and I'd be tickled pink to see him back at Bama. However, he was good for one or two head-scratchers a year from a defensive standpoint (Ole Miss and Arkansas 2016, Colorado State 2017 as examples). He modified Saban's defense to be more attacking in various areas, but that also sometimes led to big plays by the opposing team.
