What is the one thing all the Heisman candidates at QB had last year had in common?

They were all transfers.

Nobody is recruiting high-caliber QBs out of high school and successfully moving them through their own depth chart for 3-4 years any more.

It’s nearly impossible to do.

Wouldn’t shock me is Sayin transfers 1-2 more times before he’s done.

I get that he looked great on tape and paper, but I’m not really sweating what our 2025 depth chart is going to look like right now.

And it's exactly what DeBoer is doing with bringing Mack in.

Penix was a transfer but he was definitely developed by DeBoer/Grubb.

Also everyone likes to claim UGA as the new standard yet Beck isn't a transfer. They don't have any highly touted 5 star QBs on their roster either.

With the 4 guys we have currently I'm not worried about QB.

McCarthy made some huge plays. He reads a defense well, makes smart decisions, is adequate throwing, has more speed than you expect, and runs the offense effectively. He's not an exceptional talent, but he is definitely a high-caliber quarterback and the kind that you'll note actually wins the most championships.

Wasn't Penix at Indiana under DeBoer?

And isn't Milroe an example of this? He could've left but he stuck it out.

Good game manager.

I’m talking about guys that win games themselves.

Penix was with DeBoer his entire career.

Most of the best teams in CFB last year at least somewhat fit this criteria

1. JJ McCarthy-3rd year player, 2nd year starter

2. Penix-Transfer but had a previous relationship with the head coach. 2nd year starter at UW

3. Milroe-3rd year player, 1st year starter

4. Jordan Travis-4th year starter

5. Carson Beck-1st year starter, 3rd year player

6. Kyle McCord-1st year starter, 3rd year player (kinda sucked)

7. Ewers-transferred after year 1. Developed at Texas

Proven All-Conference QBs from Power-5 schools aren’t just hitting the portal all the time. Caleb Williams is the biggest name I can remember
