He's an unabashed dumbass. You could literally see the lightning. There's also this thing called a weather radar...

It is and I'm sure it's also a rule for the ESPN production crew. The same protocols apply to all productions (film and television) if there's a lightning strike within 10 miles, everyone has to take cover until 30 minutes after the last strike have passed.
Yes, it's dumb because the lightning was in the distance but safety, especially weather related, is taken very seriously by by these studios and unions.

I was coaching a youth softball game one time when an out of the blue lightning strike popped a power pole next to the field and a live line broke off and came very close to my right fielder. Multiply that by 100,000 times and you’ll see why they err on the side of caution.

I was in east Tuscaloosa. Well within the radius the NCAA/conference enforces for lightning and could hear thunder for 10-15 minutes before they called it again before 2 minute timeout. Go check the game day topic.

If anything, this would have hurt Bama's momentum more than FSU. At that point, FSU was sucking wind and needed a break. They got one. And still got embarrassed.

Around the stadium the weather was fine, just a few sprinkles. As we were walking up around 2:20 there was a lightning strike to the west that definitely hit the ground but was probably a few miles away.

I don’t really care about downvotes but the fact I have received so many on this post makes me think some folks are taking this as me AGREEING with Kanell. If you look at the subject line, I called him a doofus and the point of the post was to call him out and poke fun at him for being a doofus and making such an idiotic allegation.
