Our 30 student classrooms have been reduced to 8 students. There is no way the current business plan can sustain that loss. Is a non-resident student going to pay $14,000 a semester for online classes?

Should've been reduced at 50 percent, not at 75 percent. 8 people per classroom should be sufficient.

Also, is it possible they may add more class time to space out the students?

I get what you’re saying and I don’t disagree with your premise, but tell that to my 17 year old daughter prepping for Tuscaloosa. She’s going to be denied the true freshman year experience because of this fricking virus. As an experience, virtual learning sucks, isn’t for everyone, and denies students the opportunity for relationships with fellow students and professors.

I couldn't agree more!

My son was student at Bama last year and leaving in March with the classes he was taking that involved labs really hurt him!
My daughter is an incoming freshman and I hope and pray that the school will open as usual! They already made 4 days of Rush virtual.
So disappointing for this class especially having missed so much their senior year of HS.

They’ll lose even more money with limited attendance at athletic events and less viewers watching.

This is partly why the University of Michigan projected a $1 Billion loss for FY2020.

I can not speak for AL colleges but here in NC the one plan for attendance is to offer double the number of sections for seated classes so they can reduce capacity in the classroom by 50%. Also create more hybrid courses so less class time and space are required.

They will still be able to maintain their enrollment numbers.

Not really even though many already expected their enrollment to go down by 20% in the fall with many families opted to keep their kids home.

Private school will struggle but not state schools.

That sounds like a private college. Students here that take online only do not have to pay for student fees that resident students do. Nor is tuition that high here either.

You mean large state schools. Small state schools are likely to close, especially as many schools are running massive budget deficits and taking loans, I.E. California for the latter.

Many schools after 2008 never recovered in terms of state funding. This is likely going to cull quite a few universities.

Thanks for the link. Though your original post said for the semester but that is for the both semesters. So not to bad overall.
