People throw around the term bots generously but boards like this are among the last where I think I'm genuinely seeing human created messages the majority of the time now.

I've seen reports recently that 75% of the content generated on X is from bots. Of course, some of that are newswires and similar. Much of it is not.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is worse on Reddit. I see lifted content all the time on the various car subreddits I check out.

OG message boards like this are a dying breed but among the last good "social mediums" on the internet.

Andrew Bone says we did not cross the seven figure threshold in our NIL offer to Tank Jones.

Saint, you’ve mentioned Viliami Moami DT a couple of times…
Just curious, have you heard anything about whether or not we’re recruiting him?
The guy looked unblockable in the 1on1 camps.

Now committed to North Carolina. His third commitment.

Seven figures is 10 million dollars. This is silly. Forget silly rumors. No school is going to give anyone money like that.

10,000,000 is EIGHT figures.

Any number between 1,000,000 and 9,999,999 is SEVEN figures.

Tank might be a great player who knows, but we got two similarly rated players at his position already. I don't think he's worth seven figures right now at the moment, if he can get that at Oregon then more power to him. I think this staff is very smart and very good at talent evaluations.
A lot of our 3 and low star 4 stars look better on tape than some high 4 and 5 stars . Courtney Morgan has an eye for under the radar talent , if tank was worth the money we would have matched Oregon. Now we have a little more money to go after another prospect or wait till the off season and get a great transfer. At the very end of the day if this kids heart is not all bama he probably would transfer out once times got hard here anyway.

Like some recruits, kid was just chasing a bag. I can't say I blame him because it's life changing money

I'm sure what we offered him was too. If you experience a windfall of $750,000 rather than $1 million at 18 years old and you invest it conservatively you should be able to live comfortably for the rest of your life, even if you still need an active income.

The notion that even 5% of these guys are going to live frugally and invest that money is silly though. He'll blow all of it and have his hand out again in 2 years.

It is amazing how many athletes come into money but blow it all away on cars and jewelry and become broke and bankrupt. It is very common.

Years ago when I was in the Army, I was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA (1987-88) and I was on main post at the main gym with some buddies. I walked over to the equipment room to check out a basketball. The guy behind the counter looked like Otis Sistrunk (former DE for the Oakland Raiders in the late 1960s to late 1970s).

I looked at the guy and said, "Man, you look just like Otis Sistrunk who used to play for the Raiders.". He looks at me and laughs, "That's because I AM Otis Sistrunk.". I asked him what happened to all that money. He said, "Man, all that money's long gone. Spent it on fast cars and fast women."

I felt kind of bad for him but you hear these stories all the time.

Many of them are making enough money in 3-4 years of college that if they put most of it away with even modest investment strategies, they could have a lower six figure income for the rest of their life before considering any other forms of income.

Judging by the vehicles nicer than my own - as a middle aged professional - being driven by athletes in Tuscaloosa, I don’t think it’s likely that’s happening universally.

Sistrunk played in the NFL for seven seasons in the 1970's. I think his total career earnings from that time in the NFL are probably less than what some of these elite kids are signing for now straight out of high school.

True but a dollar went a lot further then than it does today.

Oh, for sure. But it's still funny to think that just 50 years ago a starting caliber LB or RB was making like $52k a year in the NFL.
