LINK ]Under Armour All-America: Day 1 Top 10 Plays (247Sports | segments | embedded video)
quote:

ORLANDO, FL -- Some of the top college football prospects in the country kicked off Under Armour All-America Game week in a big way Sunday. 247Sports was on hand with cameras rolling through the first practice session of the work week, where players worked in helmets competing individually in various one-on-ones as well as against one another in team settings.

247Sports breaks down the top 10 individual efforts of the evening session in the video above.

10. Daphne (AL) DB Christian Williams -- The Alabama verbal commitment, who did not sign and will take official visits in January, started his week off with an interception for Team Flash. The four-star prospect broke on the football early in the one-on-one session and came up with one of the few turnovers we saw on either side.

3. Huntington (WV) OL Darnell Wright -- An uncommitted 247Sports Composite five-star talent flashed dominance among the trench talents, including showcasing a powerful punch that left a defender in the dirt.
quote:

Just finished labeling and cutting all the video I shot on the Team Flash side of the coin and King Mwikuta was better than I remembered on first glance. He was the only DL who gave 5-star Darnell Wright trouble with his speed and then his counter rush inside, which he baited and won vs. Wright to cap the evening. He told us yesterday he was much more comfortable with his hand in the dirt and it's pretty evident. He is a standup guy for Alabama but you wonder if they may work in some traditional edge rushing for him down the line. -- John Garcia

but overall it seems better for our recruiting than if Cristobal is there.

That was my only concern about Mario. Has yet to prove he can coach for titles but he can recruit and do not want him in an area we dip into heavily.

Pickens is going to dominate in college, just hope it isn't at Auburn.

Maybe so, IF he can qualify academically. He's got the talent for sure. I get the feeling he will stick with Auburn.

I still contend if he ends up at a Gus Mahlzan run Auburn he is going to be wasted. I just hope no one else of consequence scoops him up and gets him qualified. If he ends up a UGA flip I would vomit.

On Cristobal, he would be an issue no doubt but I think he does way more damage to UF, FSU, UCF etc. and the schools from outside the south who rely on Florida talent. I don't think he does too much to a Saban run Alabama and the way we cherry pick.

Do we have a chance at Pickens if he qualifies? I just hate that we lost Ross and now maybe Pickens

LINK ]Under Armour All-America Game: Stock Report from day one (Rivals | segments)
quote:

The players came out in only helmets Sunday evening for the first night practice in Under Armour All-America Game history. It was around 80 degrees, the winds were calm and some of the best got to get after it a little.

After spending about an hour and 45 minutes watching practice, we saw some good and some bad. Based on what we saw Sunday night, here is the Stock Report for day one.

STOCK UP

LINK ]Jordan Battle (6-2/185, 4-star #12 safety, #134 overall) has ideal height and length for a defensive back. He showed off excellent footwork in drills and he had no problems turning and running with even the fastest wide receivers. The things that stood out the most with the Alabama signee were his instincts and sense of timing. He batted down multiple passes, timed his jumps perfectly and came up with at least one interception.

LINK ]George Pickens (6-4/190, 5-star #3 WR, #9 overall) was unstoppable during the one-on-one drills. The Auburn commit's height and length made it very tough for defensive backs to lock him up, and his explosiveness made it nearly impossible to keep the ball out of his hands. Pickens has always played with an aggressive attitude and that created some eye-popping plays. On one play he caught the ball after pulling away from the defensive back on a double move. The defensive back tried to grab him from behind and Pickens shrugged him off and he went flying into the barrier well out of bounds.

I think we have as good of a chance of anyone not named Auburn. I just don't know what our spots look like in regards to him. I know a few people probably will not agree with this but in my mind he is starting to reach the status where unless you are sure he has no chance of qualifying you give him a spot and try to make it happen.

I don't think Bama will have room for Pickens unless they miss on targets at higher priority positions. I also doubt Bama will risk losing a signing limit spot (if he fails to qualify) by letting him sign an NLI. Boz recently confirmed that Bama did not let 2018-class non-qualifier Jordan Davis sign an NLI.

However, Pickens may be a high enough risk of not qualifying that no schools will give him an NLI to sign in Feb. He may even end up having to retake HS courses in the summer to qualify. So, I think there's some potential that Bama might be able to take him as a blueshirt for fall camp arrival if he qualifies, provided he didn't sign an NLI with any school.

As explained in this Note (link from this thread's 2nd post, 3rd line), Bama might have three more signing limit spots than initial counter spots, creating a loophole to take up to three blueshirts. But, I'm not 100% sure if that's valid. If it is valid, bear in mind that it only applies for schools that had any 2017-cycle blue or grayshirts. Those that didn't won't have any extra signing spots and that loophole to take blueshirt players.

As explained in that note, I think 28 is the max Bama can take without any blue or grayshirts.

That stinks a little because Kirby would throw that scholarship away in a minute in hopes that he qualifies and to prove he "has his back." There is no doubt in my mind that is what he did with Nadab Joseph. The good thing is Clemson is probably full (not sure if there was interest). Damn he would be a nightmare there. Still the UF, LSU, Tenn and others are still sniffing around. His final decision along with if he qualifies will be interesting.

Yep. But I also always feel sad hearing about kids who get behind on their academics. Best wishes for George -- and others. I hope they can get the work done to qualify (even if it's via Juco) and ultimately get their degrees too.

I think Saban would be more likely to take a chance on Pickens if we would have signed a full class last season. Since we didn't, we really need all the guys to get in.

Your format is the best thing to read. I keep up now with Bama recruiting just because of it

Assuming you're talking about this thread's 1st three posts -- yeah, with so many moving parts in recruiting, they provide a much needed frame of reference. You can see lists of commits, targets and offers on recruiting sites, but they're in order of player rankings. It helps a lot to organize it by position groups, more like a recruiting board, like those posts do.

LINK ]Three-Point Stance: Practice begins for Under Armour All-America Game (Rivals | segments)
quote:

Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell’s Three-Point Stance is here with a look at some of the more impressive prospects at the first day of Under Armour practice, grading the quarterbacks at practice and some odds and ends.

1. PROSPECTS STANDING OUT SO FAR

Between registration day and day one of practice, there were many players that stood out, just eyeing them up on the hoof. Here are a few that stood out to me…

Shane Lee – Lee is a massive linebacker, not very tall but very thick. He’s got the build of a pure middle linebacker and the Alabama staff should be very happy with the way he looks.

Jaquaze Sorrells – Sorrells, who has yet to commit but I think is a South Carolina lean, has a great build for a defensive tackle and will carry college weight easily.

George Pickens – Pickens is the most physically impressive receiver at the event and probably the strongest. Auburn needs to hold on to the five-star.

Jordan Battle – Battle has a great build for a defensive back and is filled out nicely already. He’s big and long, so it’s easy to see why Nick Saban wanted to steal him from Ohio State.

Justin Eboigbe – The Alabama signee looks good on the hoof and has plenty of room to add good weight.

Evan Neal – Neal has a little bad weight but not that much for such an enormous offensive lineman. He’s not as put together as D.J. Fluker was, but he’s still one of the biggest linemen I’ve seen and reminds me a bit of him.

2. RANKING THE QUARTERBACKS

3. ODDS AND ENDS FROM ORLANDO

... Ishmael Sopsher looks like he’s added an inch in height or so since I saw him last and has kept his weight down. There have been questions about his motor so it will be interesting to see how he does this week. He looked solid to me on day one.
