Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game: Alabama Day 1 Top Performers
quote:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- On the first day of the annual All-Star showcase, players actually checked into their hotels and had a meal prior to the initial practice. Largely instructional and personnel-based without as much live reps, the groups worked with helmets to kick off the week.
In about a two hour session, several players still managed to grab 247Sports attention at the Alabama practice.

The top quarterback on either roster looked the part during Day 1. Bo Nix is somewhat in rhythm, considering he led his Pinson (Ala.) Pinson Valley squad to Friday night's Class 6A state championship, and it carried right into the first all-star impression. The Auburn commitment's footwork grabs your attention before a football is thrown but when he did cut it loose, fellow all-stars who hadn't quite seen him spin it live vocalized how the football pops off of his hand. Not known for elite arm strength, the four-star has seemingly increased his power over the last year or so. Nix was on time and assertive despite nearly no experience with his teammates, commanding their attention in the process.

Next Five on Offense
1. George Pickens, WR, Hoover (Ala.) - The one guy who already has a rapport with Nix is his fellow Auburn commitment Pickens, who has already looked to establish himself as an alpha among the skill position prospects. On a day based off of instillation one could still hear the imposing receiver letting defenders know of the chances they have against him. As usual he backed it up with strong routes and stronger hands whether away from his body or in close quarters against defensive backs.
2. Amari Kight, OT, Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson - The Alabama offensive tackle commitment looked the most comfortable of the offensive lineman moving in any direction, run or pass, which is impressive on a a 6-foot-7 frame. Not only is Kight light on his feet, but he can bend well enough to get to the second level or reach block a smaller, shiftier edge player.
3. Michael Vice, TE/H-Back, Birmingham (Ala.) Vestavia Hills - The Samford commitment is at home on the edge blocking or catching passes up the seam, but he moves well enough to play in the backfield or even off of the line on occasion. He maximizes a strong 6-foot-4 frame as both a blocker and pass-catcher.
4. Treveon Pickens, OG, Birmingham (Ala.) Jackson-Olin - Not very tall, the compact interior offensive line prospect was a late addition but played with as much physicality as any offensive linemen during the day. With a low center of gravity and above-average quickness, there's a classic chip on the shoulder on the uncommitted senior.
5. Will Reichard, K, Hoover (Ala.) - On a day where there wasn't much action, onlookers got a glance at the powerful leg of the Alabama commitment right out of the gates. He booted in 45-yard field goals with ease from each half to open the practice and just about all of his kickoffs landed in the end zone to boot. He even had return men retreating as a punter during that portion of the practice.

I agree as I have seen some UGA fans claim Bone as one of our top insiders.

Top Five Defense
1. Daevion Davis, DT, Madison (Ala.) James Clemens - One assistant coach told 247Sports he knows he will have to work to get the Vanderbilt defensive tackle commitment to rep at less than 100 percent, full speed. The compact lineman flashed his power, even without shoulder pads on, during the brief team session to introduce the units to one another. Davis is quicker than his 315-pound frame would suggest.
2. Ja'Len Sims, LB, Fultondale (Ala.) - The Alabama roster doesn't have many pure edge talents on it, and the Memphis commitment isn't necessarily a pass-rusher, but he flashed interesting ability as one while working Wednesday. At 6-foot-2, 215 pounds he was cat quick off of the edge and showed some bend in beating offensive tackles with speed. Even though it was a non-contact session, he forced an inadvertent fumble or two along the way.
3. Payton Anderson, LB/RB, Fyffe (Ala.) - A two-time state championship game MVP as a running back, including last week to cap off his senior season, he worked on the other side of the ball Wednesday and was the most fluid of foot in drills. Whether it was breaking on the football, form-fitting or maintaining leverage in space, the uncommitted sleeper prospect fit the bill.
4. Christian Williams, DB, Daphne (Ala.) - Another Alabama commitment making plays, the long combo defensive back worked well at corner to kick off the week. He is particularly impressive when able to roam some, even in zone coverage, where he was able to make the sole interception of the day on LSU commitment Peter Parrish.
5. LeDarrius Cox, DT, Mobile (Ala.) McGill-Toolen - The relatively long 6-foot-5, 290-pounder has a dream offensive tackle frame but his heart is set on defense. The Tennessee commitment impressed his coaches with his ability to pick up the defense about as fast any of the other all-stars and he applied it well with some instant pressures in the team portion of the practice.

I know I may be in the minority here but is there any reason we need to take 2 RBs in this class? We have Jacobs, Najee, and Robinson coming back and at least one other IIRC. I would rather focus on the D.
Again in the minority but have posted before that Sanders would be a great addition but does not seem to be a great need. So do we take Williams and Glass if Sanders goes elsewhere and Robinson flips to UM or just 1 RB at that point?

I guess it would depend on what position we would fill that potential spot with.
I'm all for loading up on the defensive line with another stud instead of taking two RBs.
ETA: I really gotta give Dabo credit for showing these kids that instead of trying to be a big fish in a small pond as a DL you can join a school of other big fish in a big pond and stay all 4 years.

Why do you assume Jacobs is coming back?
Posted on 12/13/18 at 7:45 am to TideWarrior
Jacobs is gone.........don't let his twitter posts fool you. Very good chance he goes no later than round 2, based on being the most well rounded (run, catch and block) back there is out there...........

Was wondering if he officially announced or something

If he wins us another title I will personally drive him to the NFL Draft and thank him for his service.
One thing getting lost in all of these recruiting battles with Georgia fans is that they are meaningless unless they produce titles on the field. I mean, we missed on Leonard Fournette and how did that turn out?
I'd much rather buy another national championship T-shirt than a recrutiing title T-shirt. Know what I'm saying?
ETA: I'm not bashing Georgia here. I'm just pointing out we have something much more important than ESD coming up in the very near future. Sometimes focusing on the players already on the roster is more important than focusing on who could potentially join it down the road.

Because I have not seen any confirmation he was leaving. I could see him leaving but have yet to see it.

The only time I ever see a tweet is if posted on a board like this so have no clue what he has tweeted.

I completely agree and until results are proven on the field it really has no value. Look at all the talent Meyer had and his class that is still the best and he left.

I actually hope Jacobs goes out there and gets drafted now and gets his money while he can. From what I remember, he has a story that not many of our successes have. Nobody really wanted him, we go out to Oklahoma in the 11th hour to watch him play basketball and offer him because we didn't have really have anyone else. Then he comes in here and looks like a football player from day one.
Go get your money Josh.

It appears that Sanders is our top choice. Robinson was our 2nd choice and why we took his committment over the likes of Williams and Glass. Yes I understand the other two may have had great senior seasons. But the concern for me is lets say Sanders goes elsewhere(IMO not a make or break type of player) and Robinson flips to UM like many believe. Just not sure taking both our 3rd and 4th option left on the board is the best choice with so many top D targets out there that we could land.

If you stack to deep on that side you just lose them to transfers, keeping a well rounded class is key even in years where we are in the running for a ton of high end defensive players.
