Not over yet.

I wonder if ITS is back in mix after all that misses we had.

Watts still seems pretty confident on Waddle. The way today has gone, though, who knows.

So Alabama can sign around 30 next year if things stay as is (presuming they would fit in the 85 total limit) right? Schollies for everyone in 2019!

Can some of you just not grasp the number of variables that collided and led to the 2018 class?

Five assistants from the 2015 season have become head coaches. Those are five assistants that were the backbone of creating the relationships with the kids in the 2018 class. You add in the fact that this was always going to be a smaller class, and you have some hurdles to jump for the first time in several years.

It is hardly a bad class. Some of you need real perspective. Signing 7 consecutive top ranked classes was an amazing feat. But it was never going to continue forever.

I hate that interior DL wasn't addressed more. I hate that a couple of in-state prospects weren't signed. But needs were met otherwise.

If we could close with Waddle, Copeland, and ITS would be nice but I hope we find a JUCO or Grad transfer that can come in

Nobody wants to consistently be in 7-10 instead of 1-3, but your theory re: Richt and Gus works off of the unsaid constant that all coaches and programs are created equal. Our program not only signs great players it develops them and runs on a different level than either Gus' or Richt's.

We do develop players well, I think. But when you have the #1 class like 7 years in a row, you have to work really hard to screw up that much talent. Signing classes like the one we signed today with any consistency isn't going to get it done. Saban either fixes this with the 2019 class, or the writing is on the wall. Look, everybody ages out. Bryant, Bowden, Paterno...Saban will be no different. When he starts slipping in recruiting, that will the first sign. Today wasn't an encouraging sign in that regard, no mater how hard some of you are trying to spin this.

We going to sign a 6th CB? I know 1 or 2 might move to S and it was a key spot, but we got both Smith and Surtain. We didn't really miss at all at CB, so I don't see why we'd all of a sudden try to get him in the mix unless we see a large chunk of those guys at S.

He is a little small for DT but maybe he just hasn't filled out yet?

No doubt - next year will be a big class. 1 solid but not elite class is not a big deal IMHO. 2 in a row is a very big deal.

I'm not really trying to spin anything. Today was a good not great day. It's not a huge problem because we hit on 1 of the 2 areas we needed ot hit on (DB) and are loaded everywhere else from an other worldly 2017 class. 2019 is a big deal and the head coach seems to agree given what we did with the staff.

The state's of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana are loaded next year.

Bama has to clean up in state, take advantage of Ole Miss's sitution and Mullen leaving State and LSU's decline.

Get some recruits out of Florida and Texas. Hope that Saban can get at least one out of Georgia.

Then use Tosh's connections on the West Coast.

We're killing it at safety in the 2019 class and Jobe will likely wind up at Safety. By landing ITS, that will be one less spot to put towards DB/S and will allow us to land that 6th DL or 5th LB in the 2019 class.

We got hit with the perfect storm: a revolving door at OC and DC for 2 seasons, more at OC; the early signing period which was a mystery and the volume caught everyone off guard, a down year for talent anyway so perhaps not as much emphasis put on it, and a staff that had lost some recruiting muscle due to turnover. Saban had the old formula down pat but the game changed and he’s still adapting to it. We’ll be aight. The Process is adjusting. I think we’ll hit the Jucos harder than normal next season.

We understand the reasons. Still doesn't matter. We lost a lot of battles we usually win today. This isn't the level you recruit at every year if you want a dynasty.

It's a down year for us, sure, but this is just like when people freak out about losing a game. They start acting like the world is coming to an end and calling for an overhaul of the entire system when, in reality, you can't win every game forever and a loss doesn't mean the entire team sucks.

Really, freaking out about recruiting is even worse. You can't always have the #1 class in recruiting, but who knows what the #1 class really is right now? I would have taken Ben Davis over someone like Levi Wallace 10 out of 10 times, but look how that would've turned out.

I know recruiting matters, but it's not everything.

Signing the #1(HS), #1(JC) #4, #13, #14 and #42 CB is NOT excessive. Saban breaking out the new Dime+1 7 DB formation this year!

Well, we don't want a dynasty, we are a dynasty.

And I agree that you can't have this class every year. You can have this class 1 time every 4 years, though. Our margin for error on the next 3 is just much slimmer now.

Dealing with the bama "realist" is going to be something over the next recruiting cycle. If this is how they respond to one "down" recruiting class imagine what they will be like when this run ends. I hope someone is there to say put the pistol down, there are people that love you somewhere.

Agreed. We sign a top 3 class next year and it's all good. But the pressure for a sick 2019 class is now turned on high for Saban and this new staff. Can not afford another mediocre effort and close or it will start to show up on the field. 2019 is now intensely critical.

I wasn't talking abut you spinning things. Thinking more of others who chastised me and others for being concerned the last few weeks with this class.
