#Alabama has two five-stars OL enrolled. Other commitments-Wills, Randolph and Brannon were recruited by Brent Key

Josh Newberg posted this on BOL:

I spoke to a source and am told that Mike Locksley will remain at Alabama in an on-field role next season. The exact position he'll coach is "to be determined", but he will be promoted on to the field.

Don't know much about Locksley, anyone have any insight to what his strengths are and is he a good recruiter?

He's a POS but it would have been worse to have him on the team only to be on the bench behind Griffin, who was kicking like shitte

Good recruiter is his strength and really all he is.
His personal track record has been pretty spotty...

AL.com | The recruiting impact of top recruiter Mario Cristobal leaving Alabama
quote:
With the loss of assistant Mario Cristobal to Oregon, Alabama is losing one of its most prolific recruiters in the Nick Saban era in Tuscaloosa.
Per 247Sports, Cristobal is ranked as the No. 2 recruiter in this year's recruiting rankings. He was ranked eighth last season and No. 1 in 2014.
His top signees include multiple five-star recruits, including this year's starting offensive tackles in Cam Robinson and Jonah Williams.
The one bright side to Cristobal leaving now? Most of his star pledges in this year's class are already at Alabama. Cristobal was vital in Alabama keeping a commitment from five-star offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, top junior college recruit Elliot Baker, another offensive lineman and five-star south Florida receiver Jerry Jeudy. All three are on campus along with four-star Texas tight end Major Tennison.
Cristobal was a major player in south Florida, securing commitments this year from safety Daniel Wright and linebacker VanDarius Cowan. Another Texas tight end in Kedrick James and Bob Jones offensive tackle Kendall Randolph were also Cristobal recruits.
But here's more good news for Alabama: the addition of Brent Key to the offensive staff has also paid dividends. Key was hired last offseason to coach interior offensive linemen, pushing Cristobal to tackles and tight ends.
Key and offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian visited Randolph and Kentucky four-star offensive line commit Jedrick Wills on Thursday. Key also played a big role in landing Baker and Randolph, and Wills mentioned Key's name over and over again when talking about his future position at Alabama last month. Randolph also has a strong bond with Key.
Alabama will miss Cristobal's ties in south Florida, the northeast and in Texas. Cristobal's contributions also helped Alabama land five-star 2015 recruits in Calvin Ridley, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Da'Ron Payne. All three have been major contributors in their first two years at Alabama.
But for this year, the timing is actually very good. Maybe if Cristobal leaves 10 days earlier (if Alabama's not preparing for the national championship game), a key recruit like Leatherwood ends up at Florida.
One thing is clear in that Nick Saban will need to hire another elite recruiter to fill the void for the 2018 class and beyond. South Florida has been too good to Alabama not to get a recruiter capable of continuing to mine that fertile area.

Locksley was considered one of the top 2-3 recruiting assistants in the country.
He should be about the only guy we get who would bring as much to the table as Cristobal.

Mario was a great recruiter and a very average--at best--on the field coach, which is why he got demoted last year.
I'm sure whoever fills his role will be an excellent recruiter as well and hopefully a better on the field coach to boot.

I'd be kind of surprised on that one given his history there, and the fact that he's paid better here than Cal can/will pay, as well as the fact that he's a co-DC already.

I don't think they'd have him on the road if they thought he was gone.

Alabama commits react to Mario Cristobal leaving for Oregon OC job
Mario Cristobal has been an important member of the Alabama coaching staff for the past four seasons as the team’s offensive line coach and one of the best recruiters the Crimson Tide have; however, he will be Oregon’s next offensive coordinator and offensive line coach on Ducks coach Willie Taggart’s staff.
SEC Country got in touch with the three Alabama offensive line commits who are not signed (junior college tackle Elliot Baker) and not currently on campus already (5-star tackle Alex Leatherwood) to see if Cristobal leaving for Oregon would affect their commitment to Alabama.
Jedrick Wills, a 4-star offensive tackle from Lafayette High School (Lexington, Ky.), said if Cristobal left it wouldn’t have any affect on his commitment to Alabama. He’s locked in, despite Kentucky trying everything it can to change his mind.
“I’m done,” Wills said. “Everybody has stopped recruiting me. It’s mainly just been Alabama and Kentucky that have been recruiting me. I know Alabama is the place for me.”
Kendall Randolph, a 4-star offensive guard from Bob Jones High School (Madison, Ala.), echoed Wills’ comments. He, too, is set on going to Alabama. Randolph was supposed to visit Florida later this month, but he doesn’t know if that’s going to happen now.
Hutner Brannon, a 3-star center from Cullman (Ala.) High School, also remains strongly committed to Alabama. Brannon was trying to be an early enrollee, but he remains a possible greyshirt candidate because numbers in the Tide’s Class of 2017 remain tight.
“I hope the best for Cristobal if he leaves,” Brannon said. “He is a great coach and recruiter. He was my main recruiter before Lane Kiffin took over. He was the first real college coach relationship I had.
“Whenever they call my name, I’ll be ready. I’m training hard every day and trying to put my best foot forward when I get down there.”
Of note, Alex Leatherwood, the nation’s No. 2 offensive tackle, before early enrolling at Alabama, told SEC Country numerous times that if Cristobal did ever leave the school, he would have likely explored his options and re-opened his recruitment. He can’t do that now because he’s already at Alabama and has practiced with the team.
Leatherwood was very close to de-committing from Alabama earlier this month. He actually called the staff to let him know of his intentions to do so.
He went to the Outback Bowl where Florida played Iowa. The plan was for him to leave Tampa, where the game was being played, and drive to Gainesville and enroll at Florida. The Alabama staff found out he was at the game and blew up his phone to make sure that didn’t happen. It didn’t and now he’s at Alabama.
Also, Cristobal’s top targets, such as: 5-star WR Jerry Jeudy, 4-star safety Daniel Wright and 4-star tight end Major Tennison have already enrolled at Alabama. Wright told SEC Country earlier this month how Cristobal was one of the main reasons why he decided on Alabama.
“Honestly, it’ll be hard, but I understand because this is all business — nothing less and nothing more,” Wright said. “He knows that he’ll be missed from every Alabama staff member and player.”
LINK Glad this happened now instead of Dec.

We can't afford to lose Tosh.Bottom line.Recruiting will almost certainly take a hit.If anyone has noticed so far we haven't had our usual great start to 2018 recruiting.
Losing Smart,Kiffin,Christobal And Tosh is not a good look for recruiting.

the 2017 class hasn't signed yet. we usually have 1-3 commitments for the next class before the current class signs, and then we have junior days and get a couple more. I'm sure we'll end up with yet another top 3 class in 2018.
some of yall need to follow aaron rodgers' advice and r.e.l.a.x.
