According to Steve Lorenz it looks like Najee is not going to have an announcement after all. He's apparently just going to enroll at either Alabama or Michigan.

That sounds about right. He doesn't seem to like the spotlight very much.

This should be good news for us then, any sudden change in plans would indicate to me a change in commitment. At least thats how I read the situation.

I don't see how this is true. Michigan hasn't even won the Big10 since Harbaugh has been there. He's had 2 10 win seasons, something both Rich Rod and Hoke did at least once.

And it's not like Michigan is suddenly getting more talent than they've had in the past either. They recruited well under Hoke and Rich Rod.

They are the LSU of the Big10.

You're wrong about that. And you're being foolish if you don't believe Harbaugh will have this team contending for titles on a consistent basis. Next year will be a rebuilding year, but they'll be ready to roll by 2018.

Full Disclosure - I like Harbaugh. I'm a Bears fan, watched him play back in the day. I'm also a fan of Stanford and he is a big part of the reason why. I'm not just hating on him, I've actually followed him a bit.

He isn't a bad coach exactly, but he's Jim Harbaugh and he does Jim Harbaugh things. In all the years he coached at Stanford he never won the Pac12 championship. And he has yet to even win a Big10 championship with the "blue blood" Michigan team.

So contending in what way? Almost in it towards the end of the year before they play their tough games? Sure, they get lots of hype. Actually making the playoffs? That's another story - they have to beat Ohio St, which is why I said they are the LSU of the Big10.

Ohio St has better coaching and recruits better. They are the real threat of the Big10. Meanwhile Michigan struggles to maintain focus and Harbaugh can't help but screw him and the team over in big moments.

He is obviously a good coach to have turned Stanford around, and he has done generally well at Michigan. But there is still a large hump to get over before he's actually in the playoffs. And even more to be a yearly contender.

People were saying similarly doubtful things about Saban after his first 2 years.

Harbaugh is elite. He's a dickhead, but he's elite.

What Harbaugh does in 2017 will show his talent.

He loses the following starters:

WR1
WR2
LT
RG
RT
TE
RB

DE
NT
DT
BUCK
OLB
MLB
CB
CB
FS
SS
P/K
LS

They also have some redshirt reserves who have graduated who may move on...

Those are dudes he only spent two years with. And he made them look like world beaters. I'm sure he will do really well next year with whoever. Especially his recruits that are getting ready to start.

Well one (of many) things we have going for us...at Alabama you can take a handoff in two years and run left behind Jonah Williams and Jedrick Willis, or run right behind Alex Leatherwood. We have recruited miles better than anyone on the offensive line. Jerry Jeudy and Tyrell Shavers will be outside catching balls from a 3 year starter. It's a damn no brainer.

I disagree. Hoke recruited fine. Jabrill Peppers, taco charlton, and a few of their OL were already there. He won't put that much better talent on the field.

Definitely an out of left field commit. I think it's badass he's coming here with a QB that just won multiple freshman of the year awards. Can't say I'd do the same if I were him.

I'm a Niners fan and I loved Harbaugh while he was there, however he can be incrediably frustrating on and off the field at times. His teams will always compete near the top but he seems to have trouble getting over the hump. My impression of him is basically a bully because he will run up the score on weaker opponents but when teams with similar talent stand up to his teams and hit them in the mouth (especially in big games) they typically get beat in the end (his play calling and game mangement becomes very questionable at the end of close games as well). That is why I feel in part why the Niners lost to the Giants and Seattle in the NFC championship game and to the Ravens in the Super Bowl (a game in which we were really the much better team on paper). I think Urban and Ohio State is going to be his Pete Carroll with the Seahawks, it is going to be really hard for him to get past them because he will not be able to bully them and they will have equal or better talent at all times. Again I actually like the guy but he never won the Pac-12, hasn't won the B1G and honestly if he stayed with Niners I doubt we would be getting past the Seahawks moving forward. I'm not saying he will never pull it off but his current legacy is of a scrappy competitive guy who gets close but never seems to when it all. Again I still believe his teams will definitely compete, but I'm not sure if he will when a National title or even the B1G before he heads back to the NFL, which is where he wants to be anyway.

Well put.

I think what he did with the Niners has also caused a lot of people to mistake what he is as it relates to college. He is a very good coach but has not shown to be a total program person. In SF he just had to put the product on the field, whereas in college he is responsible for every detail of the entire program. People underestimate all this entails very badly.

Time will tell, but he as absolutely not an elite coach in the Saban/Meyer mold as of now.
