If we are going to compare what he did in the NFL to his college success Saban would be one of the worse coaches in the SEC
In regards to what he did at Stanford should not be taken for granted. Considering he built a program that was a bottom feeder prior to coming there. The 5 years prior to CJH arriving at Stanford they won a total of 16 games including only 1 in 2006. He arrived in 2007 only won 4 games but one them was beating the #1 USC. Over the next 3 years he won 5, 8, & 11(only losing to Oregon who played in the BCS NC game. He jumped to the NFL the next year. Considering he did all that at a college that is no different than a Vandy or NW in regards to who they let in.

Markail Benton says he's locked in and doesn't plan on visiting anywhere else. He also said he's been working on Henry Ruggs.
He injured his shoulder and knee in their playoff loss which caused him to miss the AL-MS game. However, he's holding off on having surgery so he can attend the Under Armor game. Even if he can't play it'll be nice to have another recruiter there.
Here are our commits/targets playing in the UA Game:
Dylan Moses
Alex Leatherwood
Josh Kaindoh
Phidarian Mathis
Deangelo Gibbs
JaCoby Stevens
Jerry Jeudy
Stanford Samuels
LaBryan Ray
Markail Benton
Akial Byers
Daniel Wright
Todd Harris
Xavier McKinney
Jedrick Wills
Chris Allen
Ryan Johnson

Yeah he's a little more energetic than anyone we've ever hired, but he's an elite head coach. We'd be stupid not to hire him in 5-6 years if he keeps this up.
I am interested to see how he does after Watson leaves. If he can keep Clemson performing at a high level, then its pretty undeniable.

The way he melted over the refs after the OSU game would make him the perfect fit for LSU.

I don't think anyone was saying anything negative about Harbaugh's NFL success or saying that Saban's or Harbaugh's won/loss record in thr NFL directly correlates to their college success. doghouse was referencing his organizational management at the collegiate vs the pros levels, which I agree with you, I think Harbaugh has already proven he has that down based on his time at USD and Stanford. However I think what does translate across his power 5 coaching experience and his pro experience is does his philosophy and the mentality that he ingrains in his team along with his coaching decisions translate into victory on the biggest stage when your competition is equal or better. I think Saban and Urban have proven that it does for them but Harbaugh so far the answer is no. Again I'm not saying he won't get there and his teams will always compete at a high level, but I'm still skeptical that when he faces equals he has what it takes to overcome and win. With that being said he has time to prove me wrong, but I just don't think he will be at Michigan long enough to do it. I expect him back in the NFL in 2-4 years (could be wrong) and it is hard to see him getting pass Urban and possibly Saban with the way they are recruiting.

He had them playing pretty well with Tahj Boyd.
Before losing to us in the national championship game last year he had won four bowls in a row against this competition:
2012: LSU
2013: Ohio State
2014: Oklahoma
2015: Oklahoma
That's pretty damn good.

Same here. And interested to see if he's able to continue hiring elite (not just good, but elite) coordinators. He was right on the verge of being fired before Chad Morris and Venables came along. Has had a nice run with Tahj Boyd and Watson at QB. If he can prove that he can keep doing these things, then maybe he'd be the man.
My first call would be to John Harbaugh, though. John, not Jim. A more sane, easier to get along with version of Jim.

I keep picturing a Dabo Swinney statue at the Walk of Champions and how bizarre that would initially seem. I also think about the amount of metal we would need for his ears alone. That being said I like him and I think he is a very good coach who gets unnecessary grief from some corners of our fanbase.

quote:IMO, Dabo's going to have to mature quite a bit to be able to navigate the hiring process for the future Alabama job (the rah-rah shite ain't gonna get past The Board), and about the only way he'd be hired without submitting to the process would be for Saban to stay involved with the university, and strongly recommend him for the job.

Who has official visits scheduled?
As of right now, eight of the Tide’s commitments have not taken their official visits to Tuscaloosa yet. They won’t be able to do so until the dead period comes to an end on Jan. 11.
The following commits have not taken an official visit:
QB • Mac Jones • ????
LB • Christopher Allen • ????
LB • Markail Benton • ????
DT • Akial Byers • ????
OG • Kendall Randolph • ????
CB • Jhavonte Dean • ???
TE • Kedrick James • ???
C • Hunter Brannon • ???
Randolph is the only Alabama commit who has scheduled his official visit to our knowledge. He’ll visit Tuscaloosa on Jan. 21.
As far as the uncommitted prospects, 4-star cornerback Chris Henderson will visit Tuscaloosa on Jan. 13; 4-star wide receiver Nico Collins and 4-star defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw will join Randolph in Tuscaloosa on Jan. 21. Ryan Johnson, a 4-star defensive end, will visit on Jan. 28. LaBryan Ray, a 4-star defensive end, and DeVonta Smith, a 4-star wide receiver, will visit in January, but dates for their visits have not been set yet.

How many official visits can Alabama use?
Every year, Division 1 football programs can use 56 official visits, though most never get close to that number. The Crimson Tide have used 34 to this point, with 17 of them coming from committed players.
If the Tide find themselves falling off with players they feel good about right now, guys like Ray, Kinlaw, Aubrey Solomon, etc. then you should expect new names to pop up for late January official visits.

Who is expected to enroll early?
Most of the team’s recruiting class remains solid with their commitments, and a good chunk of them are looking to get to Tuscaloosa this January.
With a handful of potential NFL early departures, starters graduating and moving on from the program and several transfers over the past several months, a lot of players are hoping to enroll early.
We know every commitment who is planning on early enrolling, but it’s possible not all will be able to depending on the scholarship numbers in spring. Alabama, and other programs, can only have 85 players on scholarship. But here are the players who have expressed their desire to start their college careers this January:
QB • Tua Tagovailoa • Ewa Beach • Hawaii • Saint Louis
RB • Najee Harris • Antioch • California • Antioch
RB • Brian Robinson • Tuscaloosa • Alabama • Hillcrest
WR • Jerry Jeudy • Pompano Beach • Florida • Deerfield Beach
WR • Tyrell Shavers • Lewisville • Texas • Lewisville
TE • Major Tennison • Bullard • Texas • Bullard
OL • Alex Leatherwood • Pensacola • Florida • Booker T. Washington
OL • Elliot Baker • San Francisco • California • City College of San Francisco
OL • Hunter Brannon • Cullman • Alabama • Cullman
DL • Isaiah Buggs • Ruston • Louisiana • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
LB • Dylan Moses • Baton Rouge • Louisiana • IMG Academy
LB • VanDarius Cowan • Palm Beach Gardens • Florida • Palm Beach Gardens
DB • Kyriq McDonald • Madison • Alabama • James Clemens
DB • Daniel Wright • Fort Lauderdale • Florida • Boyd Anderson
ATH • Chadarius Townsend • Tanner • Alabama • Tanner
LS • Thomas Fletcher • Bradenton • Florida • IMG Academy

Are any commitments wavering?
Most of Alabama’s 25 commitments are 100 percent solid with the Tide. There are only two commitments who I could see not being a part of the Crimson Tide coming signing day:
Najee Harris
Michigan has done everything it can to try and change the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit’s mind on attending Alabama. He took an official visit there last week with his mother and uncle, and there are several Wolverines reporters who feel like Michigan has a great chance at flipping Harris from the Tide. I would still be surprised if he ended up changing his commitment because I know there are several people in his inner circle who hope he sticks with the school he’s been committed to for over a year now.
Jhavonte Dean
I do not expect the junior college cornerback to be in Alabama’s class when signing day rolls around. He didn’t have that impressive of a season at Blinn College, and it’s likely there will be a mutual parting of ways between the two parties.

It’s decision day for 5-star OL Isaiah Wilson
Isaiah Wilson, ESPN’s No. 2 overall player in the Class of 2017, will make his college commitment known in a few hours, and Alabama is one of the teams in the mix for the elite offensive tackle.
Wilson, a 5-star prospect from Poly Prep Country Day School (Brooklyn, N.Y.), will either commit to Alabama, Georgia or Michigan. With just a few hours to go until his decision, I am not expecting the Crimson Tide to be his choice.
As detailed on Thursday, there’s just no room to add a sixth offensive lineman in this year’s recruiting class. Readers may bring up the fact that Alabama tried to get 5-star offensive tackle Trey Smith on board just a few weeks ago, but his recruitment was a different situation. Some Alabama staff members believed Smith was able to play pretty much anywhere on the offensive line — that’s not the assessment for Wilson.
There was a point where Alabama looked like the favorite to land Wilson. He visited Tuscaloosa this summer, and the vibes of him eventually committing to the Tide were strong. Michigan then seized the momentum of his recruitment for several months before Georgia seemingly took a chunk of that lead this past weekend when he took an official visit to Athens.
Some may ask why Alabama wouldn’t make room for a 5-star prospect like Wilson, especially when the Tide have a 3-star prospect committed on the offensive line in Hunter Brannon, but the staff feels confident in his abilities, regardless of rankings. The Tide also have three elite offensive tackles committed in this class in 5-star prospect Alex Leatherwood, the nation’s No. 1 junior college offensive lineman Elliot Baker and top 10 tackle Jedrick Wills.
With Alabama needing at least two more defensive linemen, one or two more wide receivers, one JACK linebacker and possibly one defensive back (though not a certainty), the numbers just don’t compute for Wilson being in this class.
Can something crazy happen in the next few hours where Alabama somehow finds a way to squeeze him in the class? Absolutely. This is recruiting, where things change constantly, but I am fairly confident that if something crazy did happen, I don’t think it would benefit the Tide.
Make sure you guys are following along with Jeff Sentell on Twitter in a few hours. He will be on scene for us, and he’ll have a live stream of his ceremony when it gets going around 11:30 a.m. ET.
Prediction on where Wilson will commit to:
Michigan — 60 percent confidence level
Georgia — 40 percent confidence level

Alabama 2017 class snapshot
Alabama has a good chance to have the nation’s No. 1 class for the seventh straight year. As it stands now, this actually might be Alabama’s best class in the Nick Saban era because it has commitments from a top-class running back, two future play-making quarterbacks, a bookend left tackle and more.
Where it ranks?
Alabama’s 2017 class is ranked No. 1 in the country. It passed Ohio State for the top spot once Jedrick Wills committed. The Tide have held the top spot since that moment.
As is standard in the Saban era, the majority of Alabama’s commitments are of the blue-chip variety, meaning they are either rated 4- or 5-star prospects. For context purposes, the Tide have 24 pledges, including four 5-star recruits (RB Najee Harris, OT Alex Leatherwood, LB Dylan Moses and WR Jerry Jeudy), 16 4-star prospects and five 3-star talents.
Who are Alabama’s top 2017 commitments?
5-star RB Najee Harris
5-star OT Alex Leatherwood
5-star WR Jerry Jeudy
5-star LB Dylan Moses
4-star QB Tua Tagovailoa
Who committed to Alabama this week?
Isaiah Buggs, the nation’s No. 1 junior college defensive lineman from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, committed to and signed with Alabama earlier this week. Buggs was thought to be a longtime lean to LSU, but Alabama seized control of his recruitment over the past several weeks. Baker, the nation’s top junior college offensive lineman, also signed his letter of intent this week, too.
Who de-committed from Alabama this week?
Alabama hasn’t had a de-commitment since late October when 4-star linebacker Gary Johnson backed off his commitment. He took a class in junior college that would not have been accepted by SEC schools. He could have chosen to retake the class and remained in Alabama’s class, but it would have delayed his enrollment into a four-year university. Jhavonte Dean, a 3-star junior college cornerback, is someone Alabama fans should keep an eye on as far as who could be the next de-commitment.
Who are Alabama’s top remaining targets?
5-star offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson
4-star safety DeAngelo Gibbs
4-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon
4-star defensive end LaBryan Ray
4-star defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw
4-star defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis
4-star wide receiver Henry Ruggs III
4-star wide receiver DeVonta Smith
4-star JACK Jarez Parks

He was right on the verge of being fired before Chad Morris and Venables came along
Well that's simply not true. Yes, he was coming of a 6-7 season in 2010 (his only losing season) when he hired Morris, but Morris had only been a college assistant for ONE season at that point. It is to Dabo's credit that he identified Morris at Tulsa and brought him on board. If he was truly close to being fired he wouldn't have taken a chance on a guy who was coaching HS football 2 years before. He'd have hired a "name" OC.
He went 10-4 in 2011 and then hired Venables in 2011, so he wasn't on the verge of being fired before he hired Venables either.
Dabo is an elite recruiter, an elite program CEO, and a very solid gameday coach (sound familiar?). He's gone 87-28 as HC at Clemson. He's the best coach in their history. He's won his division in 5 of the 8 full seasons he's been their HC. He's won 10+ games in each of the last 6 consecutive seasons (68-13 during that time). He would be the first call when the time comes and if it comes in 5-6 years when his youngest has graduated HS, he'd sprint to the job. If it were to happen before then I think he'd give it a day or two to think about it, but he'd still take it there's little doubt about that.
