Is it possible that two Tagovailoas are the future at quarterback for the Crimson Tide?

Alabama offered a scholarship to 2019 quarterback Taulia Tagovailoafrom Kapolei High School (Honolulu) on Saturday. Taulia is the brother of Class of 2017 Crimson Tide quarterback commit Tua Tagovailoa.

The brothers attend different high schools so Taulia can have the opportunity to start for his high school. According to family members, Taulia is just as good, and perhaps even better, than what Tua was at that age.

Tua was awarded the Elite 11 MVP at The Opening earlier this month.

Taulia did not travel with his family when they made a weeklong visit to Tuscaloosa back in May when his brother was determining which school he wanted to attend. He does know, however, how much the family enjoys Tuscaloosa.

I see 15-0 more than I see 10-2 being a possibility. We still have a front 7 on the same level or possibly better than what we had last year, a stout Oline, a more improved secondary, actual decent depth at RB, a ridiculous WR crew, and more talent to work with at QB than we ever had in years.

I think they figured it out after MSU last year

Well that was a completely diff team, and that team was a playoff team. Im still not sure how CUM fricked that up. Probably has soemthing do with this...

They got too cute often and insisted on getting X many guys X many touches and forcing it

Trying to be a pleaser and recruiter instead of a coach. Totally agree, and Zeke was right!

I firmly believe JT Barrett can be in NYC

Even if he has a good year going to be tough to get in top 3 with Fournette, McCaffrey and Winston in there. And thats not counting all the other good players who will come from no where and have a great year. Plus i think he is missing some parts in the mental area. This is important for consistency.

My biggest concern is DT

There are concerns in every unit of that roster. There were mass exits this draft.

I'm leaning 10-2 right now

The only jaugernaut on that schedule is an OoC team so 10-2 is def possible. I mean if a team as average as Iowa can go the regular season undefeated last year, then anything is possible in the Big 10.

Alabama extended an offer to a familiar name for Tide fans -- 2019 quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa (Kapolei, Hawaii), according to his brother UA commit Tua Tagovailoa's Twitter.

Don't like this - I love it!!

Not demeaning our current excellent commit but if he has one I would offer Tua's cousin too and teach him to long snap.

I think Tua will be extremely special (a darker Namath with better knees and less inclanation towards the bottle (though I live in a glass house)).

Really wish there were a few years between him and Hurts. Between the two I really see multiple future trophys. Also, think having guys that special keep Saban from calling it a day prematurely.

I'm a pessimist at heart but this makes me smile like Saban did after the onsides kick vs. Clemson.

I'm a big fan of Tua. The ONLY thing I'll say in any negative light is that I wish he'd ran faster than a 4.9 at The Opening. Now, he could have gotten a bad start or slipped or whatever. Not sure. But there aren't many dual threat guys running 4.9s. That being said, didn't Ridley run a 4.8 somewhere at a camp? And he's now running a 4.35 laser tested this Summer, and is one of the fastest WRs in the country. So you never know for sure on those times.

I love the offer to his brother, though.

I was surprised by 4.9 too. However, IIRC, JFF didn't really run that fast of a 40 and he was definitely a dual threat.

I shouldn't play this card, but I once ran a 5.1 second 40 yard dash in high school - so I know a think or two.

The main thing (at least for my 5.1 time) is getting someone who takes a bit of time to mash the button on the Seiko watch after you started running.

Ha. Yeah. Didn't JFF run like a 4.7 at the NFL combine? And we know he was quick as a hiccup, but he also looked lightning fast in a straight line to me. I remember being amazed at how quickly he scampered for about 30 yards on one play against us in 2012. Played much faster than that.

Tua looks a lot faster than 4.9. I'm not really worried about it. He has a howitzer for an arm, great leadership skills, and the game seems to be slow to him. His decision making - granted this is just based on film and in 7 on 7 competitions, so you don't really know how he'll look in an actual game against top competition - looks very good and natural.

This is the only part I want to comment on. JT Barrett accounted for the most TDs in B1G history in a season in 2014 as a rFR.

He also was the leader of that team who gave pre game talks before the Bama and Oregon games Even after injury. Was the only sophomore captain in OSU history. He's absolutely there between the shoulders

I would give Barrett a real chance to be there. It comes down to the record of the team as much as it does on field performance. Not to mention being a QB puts the spotlight on him and he gets the credit for the wins. I think Watson has to be the odds on favorite entering the season though.

But as mentioned the season will carry a lot of weight. The 3rd game being on the road at a higher ranked OU will probably make or break his chances. Big game on the road there to get the hype going followed by road games at Wisky and MSU with finishing up with UM at home.

According to Chef on Bol while Raekwon Davis is enrolled and practicing, he's an "academic redshirt" which means he can't play this year. It is currently under appeal. Another insider said he thinks BJ Emmons is also.
quote:

Academic redshirts may practice in the initial term and receive athletics aid during the initial year of full-time collegiate enrollment but may not compete in their first year of full-time collegiate enrollment. In order to meet the academic redshirt standard, a college-bound student-athlete must:

Complete 16 core courses;
Meet the academic redshirt sliding scale (GPA and ACT/SAT sum score); and
Graduate from high school.

That sucks, about Emmons, he was going to play a good bit this year. At least they get to be in the program, they will be ready for next year.

He didn't say for sure, he just said he thought he was. Hopefully not though.
