Tampa Sickles four-star running back Ray Ray McCloud has had a unique opportunity to unofficially visit over 20 schools over the past few off-seasons. Already this month he has been to Georgia, North Carolina, N.C. State, Clemson and Wake Forest.
Next week McCloud will head out west and make unofficial trips to see both USC and UCLA, according to his father. He will also be out at the Opening in Oregon in early July and make a third visit to the west coast and make a visit to see the Ducks.
Also scheduled next month are trips to Alabama (July 17), Notre Dame and Ohio State. McCloud will also likely camp at USF.
McCloud, 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, is one of the nation’s most explosive talents in the 2015 class. He has offers from teams coast to coast. It is thought that programs like Clemson, Florida, North Carolina, UCLA and USF are out in front at this time, though McCloud will tell you he’s open and considering many others.

Several Tide commits and targets will head out Beaverton, Oregon in early July for The Opening, an elite invite-only all-star camp that hosts over 150 of the nation's top prospects at the Nike World Headquarters. The Opening is releasing the rosters for the 7-on-7 and lineman challenge teams this week and on Tuesday released the roster for Team Apocalypse, which will feature several Tide commits and targets. Commits WR Calvin Ridley and OL Lester Cotton will team with targets RB Damien Harris, RB Jacques Patrick, LB Malik Jefferson, LB Joshua McMillon, OL Matthew Burrell and DT Daron Payne on Team Apocalypse.
Alabama's QB commit, Blake Barnett, is also participating in the event, which is in conduction with the Elite11. The quarterbacks will not be added to the roster until right before The Opening begins and will be drafted by the Elite11 counselors.

Coconut Creek (FL) 2016 four-star cornerback Trayvon Mullen picked up an offer from LSU this afternoon. Alabama offered the 2016 prospect two hours earlier. Mullen has 16 verbal offers and is ranked as the nation's No. 7 rising junior cornerback.
Apparently LSU offered right after Bama did

Business Insider partnered with Niche to rank 20 schools with the best college sports fans.
Florida State checks in at No. 1.
Here is what they wrote on the Seminoles:
"FSU's fan section might be best known for their "war chant," which has become as synonymous with the team as their Seminole mascot.
The "war chant" is usually accompanied by the Seminoles' iconic tomahawk chop, where fans repeatedly bend their arm at the elbow to symbolize a tomahawk swinging down."
Others on the list include Alabama (3), Florida (6), Georgia (2), LSU (20), Ohio State (10), and Texas (4).

Alabama's game against West Virginia on Aug. 30 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta marks the biggest contest for the Tide in the August/September portion of the schedule. This game will feature the first for a new starting quarterback at Alabama (either Blake Sims or Florida State transfer Jacob Coker most likely) and the debut of new offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. The Mountaineers no huddle passing attack also will challenge the Crimson Tide's defense from a tempo standpoint and you can bet that West Virginia will be sky high for this game. Alabama has a chance to make a statement with a big victory against a formidable Big 12 opponent, so right out of the gate, this one is huge

With Idaho, Eastern Michigan and Kentucky coming to the swamp for the first three games of the 2014 season, Florida could very easily be 3-0 when it heads to Alabama on Sept. 20. This game will be a measuring stick for the Gators, who have the overall talent to stay on the field with the Crimson Tide, particularly on defense. Quarterback Jeff Driskel will get the chance to run Florida's new offensive system on the road for the first time and the Gators' backs- Kelvin Taylor and Mack Brown- certainly will get their carries. This game will be intriguing and will give Florida a chance to truly see where it is as Will Muschamp continues to build and squares off against former boss Nick Saban for the second time

quote:yep. if you want a guy to be at 260 playing weight in college he probably shoulf be no more than 230 coming out of HS. They are right at the point where they will start putting on their adult muscle mass, especially in an intense S&C program. if hand gets to 300 lbs and stays cut im cool with that. we need 3-4 DEs that can do more than eat of blocks
Eta: not sure why anyone expected Hand to be the answer as a speed rusher. He's never been that and graduated high school at 260 pounds. It was a given this guy was going to play at 280-290 once Cochran got his hands on him. He isn't the answer at speed rusher but he does give us an elite athlete with great size at defensive end. He is not a Stinson, pagan, Williams type of player. This guy will end up a svelte version of Dareus

From the Miss St. recruiting thread:
quote:
"Mississippi State is No. 2 and that is the way it still is," said Lewis. "Ole Miss is up there, too, and I like both schools a lot. I love State's pride and tradition and the way they are getting ready to build a national championship-contending program. They are getting good players and I like the talent Mississippi State is producing and developing. I really like seeing that and Mississippi State is a little above Ole Miss."
quote:
"I would say it is not much of a factor," said Lewis. "But I am close with Farrod and other guys in their class and me and Farrod talk to each other every day. I know he loves Mississippi State and so do I. I am committed to Alabama and happy with my decision. But February 5th is a long ways away and I just see what happens between now and then."

As I recall, most people thought Hand would be a Jack during his early recruitment which was exciting because we all want an elite pass rusher. It wasn't until last summer that the possibility of him being a DE began to be seriously discussed. Once he got around 270, everyone began to accept the Jack ship had sailed.

Hand is cut from the same mold as Nkemdiche, not Clowney.
Who said he was a Clowney?
Also he isn't the same as Robbie. Robbie was almost 280 in high school.
quote:
He's a stout, athletic kid. He'll probably be 290 by his junior season. Think Ed Stinson with a pass rushing repertoire. There's a reason he was a top 5 player in the country, the sky is the limit for him. Kid is going to be a hell of a football player, and even in high school he wasn't a finesse pass rusher. I love the fact that he's putting on weight. He is the prototype 3-4 end.
This is the problem with Alabama fans. Every lineman has to weigh 300 pounds.
Then they complain during the season about how they fatigue, size, quickness, etc..
On one hand most of you guys say Saban is trying to play a little smaller and quicker. On the other you celebrate when a DE, ENTERS the school at 270-280... already weighing about the amount he should LEAVE before he plays a down.

There in lies the problem "once Cochran got his hands on him".
I'm starting to think he needs to look at other techniques that just aren't blowing these kids up in size.
I've noticed a trend with the kids he has developed going into their combines and pro days. They are far from the strongest, their bodies break down a lot.... but they are gigantic in size.

If anyone wants to negative recruit us with defensive linemen, look no further than this.
"At Alabama they will blow you up, because they want people who can eat space and blocks".
Then you guys will complain about us being negatively recruited like that isn't a real thing with the program.
Ironically, just months ago Saban was talking about wanting players leaner, not as big, quicker.
Now people want Hand to be 300 pounds
With some 10% body fat bullshite as if his body fat determined his quickness, speed, agility.

I mean you're making some really broad brushstrokes and using one player as your example. Sure it would be awesome if he stayed at 270 maybe even 280 but he's not. Just because one kid blew up in our strength and conditioning program doesn't mean that we're not gonna have a quicker leaner more athletic defense this year. I'm not sure people in this thread want him at 300 pounds but when the he is 300 pounds or if he gets to 300 pounds it's better to look on the bright side then it is to sit here and whine and complain about a loss of athleticism.
Just to clarify, I don't think you were whining or complaining.

I honestly think we see more 4 down lineman sets this year than 3. I also don't believe that every 3-4 end has to be 300 pounds. Jonathan Allen might start and I doubt he weighs that much.

Jon Allen is my pick for breakout defensive player for the tide this year. I foresee big things this fall from him.

He has not been at Bama long enough for this to be put on Cochran. The kid is just still growing. Look at a picture of him. He carries the weight very well. Him being 280 -285 is not a big deal.
