Should we be seeing more Amari than we are right now? Seeing Latu make lazy attempts at blocks and not get much separation in the passing game. I feel we should be trying to get Niblack’s feet wet now so he can be up to speed and creating mismatches in the postseason. I’m honestly not seeing much from Latu as of lately.

The question is why are these the only two to choose from ?

Georgia has three draft day TE's and then another several in the pipeline. We kept missing on TE's and taking guys way down the board like it wasn't gonna catch up. Latu wasn't even signed as a TE.

Latu seems to be sucking wind out there and has his hands on his hips a lot. Maybe he is out of shape from an injury this offseason, but whatever is going on he isn't a factor on gameday.

Latu has been a solid TE for us. I honestly can't say that I've paid attention to his blocking but I'll talk y'all's word for it.

FYI - he’s the featured player on this week’s Nick Saban Show

He’s mostly the reason our wr screens are usually a negative play. He is usually the one missing the block.

If he doesn't know the blocking schemes he is a liability. Of course, we could run some plays for him where he goes in motion and has an easy read. But who are we kidding, we've never designed plays to feature a TE.

It could be bc teams play so much nickel coverage now. That nickel DB will be able to handle the TE is pass coverage unless you've got a Gronk style best that is gonna drag defenders downfield. Long gone are the days of two huge TEs punishing teams with the run game and then slipping them out with play action. We don't have the personnel for that shite.

Who coaches the TEs?

Joe Cox coaches the tight ends.

there are usually 1, maybe 2 receivers trying to block 3 or 4 defenders on our WR screens...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Amari Niblack has one reception in his college career, vs. ULM. Granted, it was a touchdown. What has he done to warrant the excitement / push for more playing time?

Or is it just a case of people not liking Latu?

It's the easy drops and the missed blocks from Latu that people don't like. Niblack hasn't done anything to win the job and he hasn't even looked up to speed when he's been in.

Billingsley must have given Latu the pictures he had of Nick and Hillary Clinton. His job is safe.

Latu, Ouzts, and Randolph don't strike fear into anybody.

It's most definitely the blocking and he's also not much a vertical threat o=in obvious passing situations. BOB prefers a three wide receiver one tight end set and it would make more sense to have the more athletic TE playing in those situations.

Latu seems inconsistent with both his blocking and catching. Though he has come a long way from where he started, I never thought he would be a regular starter here. Herbstreit was very complementary of him last Saturday.

Latu has potential he's just inconsistent.

Ouzts is an Hback/FB and we don't run plays that utilize him at all.

Randolph is a 6th OL and he's not bad at it.

Two of them are just role players. They are effective in their roles. The real issue is that the coaching staff didn't recruit any other traditional TEs. Even if Billingsley had turned out to not be a turd, he would probably be gone. He wasn't really a true TE either. Maybe the coaching staff doesn't prioritize that position. BOB loves to have one in the game. At this point I think we would be better off running more 4 WR sets. Latu is not a difference maker as a blocker. I say spread it out and give Gibbs more room to skate.
