So basically Bryant doesn't have great deep(er) ball either, but handles the short throws under pressure WAY better than Hurts?

That stat goes a long way when talking keeping drives alive on 3rd down.

Bryant isn't Watson. But if Clemson's defense shows up, he doesn't need to be.

I'm really excited to see what Hurts can do in this game. And I trust him more than Bryant in this game.

But I don't think Alabama has this big advantage because of Watson being gone and replaced with Bryant. Clemson's DL is ridiculous.

The difference will be the gameplan. Our defense is going to look the same and never be any different so they will know ehat to do.

Yep Hurts has at least been on this stage before. I think he will rise to the occasion and the coaching staff and game plan will help him succeed. Would love to see our ENTIRE fan base get behind Hurts these next few weeks and save the “debate” for the off season. We are one of 4 teams that have a chance to win the NC. That’s not something that should be taken for granted. Let’s fricking go.

The difference is that Bryant will throw some people open. Hurts doesn't do it. Against big time college defenses ya gotta throw a guy open every once in a while.

How are people not realizing that the completions under pressure for Jalen are a direct result of being careful with the ball and throwing it away. This is why Jalen has thrown 3 more TDs and no interceptions. The difference in TDs to INTs under pressure is more of a glaring stat than the completion percentage is in favor of Bryant.

Thank you. Not sure how you can say that Bryant is much better under pressure when Jalen has 3 tds and 0 ints, while Bryant has 0 touchdowns and 2 ints, AND takes more sacks.

if I understand correctly, he didn't include throw aways in the compl %, so that would make it a good bit worse. We cannot do what we did against Auburn and have zero 3rd down completions, and basically what happened a good bit of the game last year. Our defense wont survive. That seems to be our trend lately. No third down conversions and the other team has the ball most of the game. That is a disaster in the making.

Bryant's short throws are almost all get it out quick screens. They are basically extended runs. When he has to make big time QB throws down the field to his 2nd or 3rd receiver he is not much better than Jalen is.

Bryant is probably a bit better at reads and throwing to secondary guys (mostly quick slant/in route type stuff), but not a ton, and he's pretty bad down the field (worse than Jalen).

Precisely. I'm not saying Hurts is a great passer, but I feel like most people on this board would admit to wanting Bryant over Hurts even though advanced stats backs Hurts as an at worst equal passer and a far better runner. It's like they can't even give Hurts an ounce of credit.

Both are very good college quarterbacks because they put so much pressure on a defense with their ability to run the ball. Right now they are both average passers. This time around, Clemson has the better defense, esp the D line, so we might need to out quarterback them to win the game. One plus for Hurts is that he is less likely to get hurt, or dinged up in the game than Bryant.

I recommend getting the guy with 110 carries, 906 rushing yards (yes that is 8.2 yards a carry) and 11 TDs more involved to take some pressure off Hurts. Just an idea, I'm not an expert.

Harris is 167th in rushing attempts in college football this year.

Keep in mind Tua has 20% of our passing yards so some of the younger guys are misleading.

Seems like the exact same story as 2014 and it worries me. One WR takes 80% of the receptions and then the other 20% is spread out around 4-5 guys. Split carries between a QB and two RB's. However, we do have more redzone targets considering Cooper had 50% of the receiving TD's that year.

I'm worried about Ridley getting bracketed like Cooper in '16 or doubled like last year against Clemson. It seems Jalen has adopted the Blake Sims mantra of only having Cooper/Ridley as their option and we haven't shown the ability to consistently get it to someone else nor have we given them the experience. Foster has only gotten a game high of two catches this year. Jeudy has three.

Clemson on the other hand has three players with 40+ receptions and seems more evenly spread.

Renfrow is the equivalent of Kevin Norwood.

He wasn't Amari Cooper or Julio Jones but I miss that dude. Talk about clutch.

Bottom line is Kelly Bryant is average. He isn’t Watson and this game will be tough for him. If it’s one thing we have it’s a secondary.
