I have heard Lonergan next year could likely be QB1

From the sound of it, there was a lot of arse chewing going on during the scrimmage. I think this is the right before session challenge yourself Saban thing.

Still having a lot of drops at WR is depressing

My brother said it wasn’t a lot. There were some but I think Saban is doing that thing where he just isn’t happy with anything.

Saban doesn't sound too happy in his post-practice presser.

He mentioned a riff on an old Sparky Anderson quote:
"There's three ways you can treat a person. You can pat 'em on the butt, you can kick 'em in the butt, or you can leave 'em alone."
He said he's been trying to figure out when to kick em in the arse, pat em on the arse, or leave em alone...but he's been leaning towards kicking em.
He's back, boys and girls.

I’m loving this team!! They have all the right pieces to be special, I think Saban understands it, too.

You may be right. He gets on the ones he feels have a certain meanness to them.

I'll bet Boz is sitting around eating steak and drinking whiskey with his brother, instead of coming in here and telling us more about the scrimmage!

Some dude on BOL posted this about the QB battle:
Oh boy.
ETA: Apparently this poster is a huge Milroe fan and has been campaigning for him to win the job since the Spring. Just FYI.

A week and a half and one scrimmage, one more scrimmage left.
Milroe is the QB. Simpson needs another year or 2 before he’s an SEC starter, Lonergan is better at this point.
Simpson played ball in NW Tennessee in HS. He didn’t play much competition TBH. The players at Bama are too fast right now for him. He had the tools but just not ready yet. I can see him like Mac or AJ. Lonergan played 7A in Georgia so he’s not had as much of an adjustment. Same with Milroe playing 7A in Texas.
Simpson has been given every chance just hasn’t been as consistent. Buchner has struggled but kind of expected. He has no rapport with the guys etc. However, with more reps he may be ok. I think he ends up being the backup and may play if Milroe screws up. To me.
I think the biggest difference at this point is the chemistry between Milroe, the WRs, OL, etc. He has chemistry with Burton, Bond, etc. Of he gets majority of first team reps he will do even better, I think he’s earned that at this point. I know they want to keep the competition going but I think it’s time to ease back. I would expect Milroe with more reps and breaking away now.
These are just opinions from someone I know in the know and what I’ve gathered from it.

Another guy from BOL on today's scrimmage:
quote:
All three QBs got reps with the first team but Milroe was probably the best, still close. Burton played well, him and Bond had some big plays. Reichard was perfect as a kicker. Roydell had a TD running with the 1s. When the defense was against the 2nd team OL they feasted. The front 7 was too much to handle. Trezman got a turnover. Niblack looks the part, I’m hearing he’ll have a big year. The weight gain has made him more than just a big WR. As Saban said, Eboigbe and Oatis look really good, definitely our two best DL right now.

Milroe winning the competition - and not simply by default - would not be a bad thing in my opinion.
If the plan is to RTDB then he really only needs to reliably hit quick game stuff and throw a good deep ball.

I don't give a shite who wins the job as long as they win the damn games.

It’s crazy all the differing perspectives from the scrimmage. I can’t wait to see for myself next weekend.
But I agree if Milroe wins outright, it’s not a bad thing. I just hope we don’t get in a bad situation with passing against a good team. Time will tell.

I'm fine with any of the QBs winning as long as it's because they're the best. And I don't see why that wouldn't be the case. If Milroe finally develops his passing to complement his freak athleticism he'll be a monster. If Ty lives up to his 5 star promise awesome. If Buchner beats them both out because he's just flat out better great. Just give me a guy who is gonna get us back to the promised land.

Yeah but it's exactly what most on here do not want and we basically been told Ty Simpson has looked the best before this scrimmage.
