We’ve missed on multiple elite interior DL in the last 3-4 years. Everything we’ve got has been either a project or a “decent” rotational guy

Haven’t had a true dominant DL since Quinnen (Barmore was great down the stretch but less consistent early on)

It's amazing what one hire will do for a man's reputation and legacy. When Rich Rodriguez turned us down in December 2006, I don't think there was a single Alabama fan in the state who wanted Mal Moore to remain on as our athletic director. Granted the majority of us had no idea that Moore was secretly happy about the whole thing, but at that point there was no guarantee Saban would even talk to him once the NFL season was over.

Moore's coup in Miami in January 2007 definitely cemented his legacy as one of the greatest figures in the history of Alabama football.

We have missed on a few of our top choices over the last couple of years. But the bottom line is it's hard to assess how good a high school player is going to be in college. Here's a listing of a couple of past Alabama DL's ratings coming out of high school versus the ratings of some of the people currently on our roster (taken from 247 Sports).

Quinnen Williams 0.9321
Marcel Dareus 0.9064
Dalvin Tomlinson 0.9237
Tim Smith. 0.9731
Jaheim Oatis. 0.9710
Justin Eboigbe. 0.9698
Damon Payne. 0.9872
Khurtiss Perry. 0.9722

Oatis is as close to a five star as you can get. I honestly had no clue how good he was because he was so overweight in high school. But he has turned out to be a great player to this point and he still hasn’t reached his full potential.

Oatis isn't a "great player" yet but he seems to have the right stuff to be one the next two seasons. He was arguably our best interior lineman as a true freshman. Excited to see if he can reach dominant status.

I can't find it, but there's a clip out there of Miles McVay pushing him to the ground with 1 arm.

What jokester coach decided to line up the smallest DL vs the biggest OL

He's a great talent that is doing all the right things to be successful and he's making an impact on the field. If he continues on his current trajectory he will be an All American at the end of the year.

Didn't realize until reading that article how many veteran seniors/upperclassmen there are returning this year that have either been hampered by injury or behind the guys departing for the draft, especially in the secondary. That's potentially a big boost to have guys that have been in the system for so long and combine/compete with the substantial incoming freshman talent.

On a side note, what's with all the serial down votes in this thread? Someone has a lot of free time to troll.

Bama "fans" who have a problem with someone complimenting a player on our team.
