ULM Head Coach Optimistic Ahead of Alabama Game

“We just have to look at last week and see that anything is possible,” said Bowden. “We’re not favored to be in this football game, but I don’t think Appalachian State was favored to be in the game against Texas A&M, ranked number six. I don’t think Marshall was expected to be in the game against Notre Dame in Notre Dame and I doubt Georgia Southern who has a new coach, coming off a bad year was expected to beat Nebraska in Lincoln and yet they did.”

He would be a great replacement for Golding if Pete moves on, I think.

Agreed, I've always wanted him to come to Bama as a DC, but he's turned down Saban twice, right?

He was pretty much guaranteed the UW job, why he stayed.

Between flopping at UW and allegedly hitting players(I have no opinion on this), don't think he has same prestige to turn down quality jobs now.

Exactly why he's a perfect candidate for Nick Saban's Rehabilitation Program!

Just finished watching the (poorly edited) Hey Coach Show. In context, he was talking about seeing a player do that ‘gesture’ after telling the team earlier in the week he didn’t want to see it. He referenced the Twitter clip of him after the game telling the player don’t do that ‘stuff’.

Nick Saban: Alabama Used to Have 'Hateful Competitors' (SI)

Coming off another close road game, Saban talked about the mentality some of his former teams and players had when playing on the road.

So like many posters here have stated. We’ve gotten soft as a football team. We traded hate for unicorn pass happy offense.

I get where you're coming from. It's true to a degree that shifting to a passing offense makes both your offense and defense softer with regard to the run. But college football has changed and Saban accepted that. To not accept it means not being able to recruit the best skill players. Not being able to counter when opponents manage to get leads on you.

imo, it started with the targeting rules and the new softer way of tackling. i seen an interview with cns several years ago where he described their new style of tackling as a means to help prevent injury. grab hold of their waist and roll them down, similar to a rugby tackle, was how he described it. now for years ive watched tacklers light our guys up, while we patty cake them to the ground. i sure do wish we'd get back to lighten guys up

Seems like we could find the happy median of a "hatful bunch" on defense, while slinging it around on offense. I think the nature of Goldings play calls may have something to do with it. Not a knock or a praise on him, but the more it seems like Pruitt's defenses were maybe not as complicated and more so letting athletes be athletes.
